Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

This has worked reasonably well, although it does smell and it composts slowly.

First, though, the wheels fell off from the weight. Then the metal frame rusted. And now, the plastic connection to the frame has broken making the composter no longer airtight. We'll be replacing with a different model.

I'd recommend with reservations. It will get you started on composting.

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

I love my back porch compost tumbler! Actually, I have two! I use them for all my kitchen scraps, leaves, plant trimmings, coffee grounds, etc. They are easy to turn for aeration (no need for turning with pitch fork). When one is filled, I start filling the second one. That way I always have compost for my garden. They are small enough to be unobtrusive but large enough to produce a decent amount of compost. Also, the wheels allow me to roll the compost tumblers closer to where I will be using the finished compost. I highly recommend this compost tumbler.

Although I did not get my green and brown parts right at first, I recently added leaves which equaled them out and I hope to see quality compost in a couple of months if not sooner. Time will tell.

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

I just love the fact that we don't throw away all those kitchen scraps. They go right out to the composter. When I first started, I had trouble with moist, smelly "YUK" for compost, but figured out I wasn't adding enough brown stuff. So I simply started adding in a good amoung of brown leaves every week, and the compost reduces by about 50% in less than a week. It is never smelly now, it is easy to access and easy to turn and mix. When the composter is pretty full, we shovel it out into a pile that we mix with potting soil and aother additives, then start all over in the compost bin. We recommend it. It is a little pricey, but is perfect for a small back yard. We just bought another one for our son who is starting to garden.

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

My 10-year-old son and I put it together fairly easily. The first batch of mulch took 3 months -- probably because I didn't have enough brown material. I solved that for the second batch by buying the coir bricks from GSC. My main complaint is the bugs that are inside the container with the composting matter: maggots and small flying insects. Yuck!

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

It works well enough. With no handle to turn the barrel, you must do it by hand using the grooves in each section. Every time it rains, the grooves fill with water. You can't really turn the barrel by standing on the side, so after a rain, you get drenched when you turn the barrel. There's no drainage in the grooves.

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

Years later (maybe 4) the door will not stay on when turning, not even when bound with bungee cords. Two years ago I had to move it off the patio and into the "way-back" because when the bin dumped the half-cooked compost onto the patio, I couldn't scoop it up fast enough to keep it away from the dogs. Now even the latch is broken. As soon as I can clear out the mass sitting inside, the whole bin will go in the trash.

Comments about Back Porch Compost Tumbler:

My wife and I use the composter to create healthy organic fertilizer for our vegetable garden. We love that it is mobile and we can role it directly to where we will apply the compost. We add our kitchen scraps and fallen leaves to the composter weekly, add a little water from the hose, and give it a few turns. It doesn't get any better!
