Additional Information

Red Tomato Mulch Increases Tomato Harvest by Up to 20%

  • University-tested mulch improves yield and flavor of your tomatoes
  • Also warms soil and conserves moisture
  • Micro-perforations allow water, air and nutrients to reach the soil

The product that started the "red revolution," this remarkable red mulch helps tomato plants grow faster and produce more abundant crops. Developed jointly by the USDA and Clemson University, and proven effective in tests by a leading consumer magazine, this specially engineered red mulch reflects far-red light wavelengths upward into your tomato plants. This triggers the release of a natural plant protein that stimulates more rapid growth and development. Your plants will mature faster, look bushier, and give you a more flavorful, more abundant harvest than ever before. Also may be used with strawberries, melons, red peppers and other crops that fruit above ground. Micro-perforations allow water, air and nutrients to reach the soil surface. Not designed for weed suppression. 24' L x 3' W. Easy to anchor with Earth Staples, sold separately.

Comments about : Red Tomato Mulch:

Several years ago, I read an article in "Zone 4" magazine (now known as "Rocky MT Gardening") that described using Red Tomato Mulch, Walls of Water, and insulating fabric to extend the tomato season. Since combining the 3 season extenders, I've doubled my tomato output.
Out here in Montana, at 4500 feet, we need to be creative to maximize our summer vegetable and fruit production!

Used in strawberry bed and fruit production is increased over past seasons. Could be the weather but the red mulch seems to be a contributor also.

Keeps soil from splashing on plants, helps retain moisture and produces bigger and better fruits. Does not keep weeds down so you have to pull it back occasionally for weeding.
