Additional Information

Exclusive | Rain Barrel Super Siphon

  • Faster, easier way to get water from your rain barrel
  • Allows you to water plants uphill from the rain barrel
  • Use to apply diluted fertilizer and compost tea
  • No power required

Finally, a fast, effective and simple method of transferring rain barrel water to your gardens — even if they're uphill from the rain barre! — without repeated trips back and forth lugging heavy watering cans. Drain a 75-gallon rain barrel in 15 minutes or less, twice as fast as allowing water to flow by gravity alone. The siphon also allows you to mix fertilizer or compost tea in the rain barrel and use the diluted mix to water plants. The siphon is "powered" by tap water flowing through your hose: As it passes through the Super Siphon, the flowing tap water creates a suction that draws the rain water out of your rain barrel and mixes it with the water from the tap. This results in a water output that's up to 2/3 rain barrel water and 1/3 tap water from your tap (the exact mix depends on your water pressure, hose length and diameter, and attachments). Hoses not included.

Product Details

  • Protect from freezing temperatures

Could be Useful

Comments about : Rain Barrel Super Siphon:

I bought this product hoping it would help drain out stock tanks when they get low and need the bottom cleaned before changing the water. Although it did move the water, and I could drain to uphill parts of my yard, it was very slow and clogged easily. I would only recommend this product if there is no debris that needs to be moved from the bottom of a rain barrel or other water container.

Comments about : Rain Barrel Super Siphon:

Having had an aquarium cleaner on hand that did the same thing with almost the same design, I thought I would try this device as it's only variance is the ability to attach an output hose to it.

Sadly, the jet that is formed in the cavity of the device is either ill-placed or ill-formed such that your rainwater recovery setup must have this device at the bottom of your collection system so that the force or gravity can assist it.

I had 4 55 gallon barrels hooked together using 6 foot hoses to siphon from one to the other and a 5th hose coming out of one to the siphon device. Literally 90% of the time it would backfill my barrels and only one out of those ten times did it drain my barrels. When it does drain tho, it drains fast!

Currently I am reworking my rain barrel setup so that gravity and water pressure will assist the device.

Don't use this with a spray nozzle!

Pros

  • Moves The Water Quickly

Cons

  • Damaged Rainbarrel Seals

Best Uses

Comments about : Rain Barrel Super Siphon:

This product does move the water quickly. However, my hose bib was located far away and was wasting water for me to leave running while I turned it off. I add a spray nozzle at the end of the hose to not waste water. While it worked wonderfully to spray water onto the garden, when I released (closed off) the spray nozzles do it damaged my rain barrel. I first released the nozzle, walked over to the barrel (purchased from GS) to turn it off and the walked over the the hose bib to turn it off. The pressure from the water went up the closed rainbarrel line and blew out the seals. Now that I disconnected the lines and even with the valves closed the water will not stop running out of the barrel hoses. So now I need to purchase two new connectors for the barrel. It works wonderfully, but the instructions should warn folks about the back pressure.
