Comments about : Self-Watering Railing Planter:

Great product. I bought one and liked it so well that I bought 2 more. My railing is 3.5", not 4", but we wedged a piece of styrofoam (from an old cooler) between the planter and the railing, and it is very secure. We've had high winds and it didn't budge. Only one small problem....one of the drain holes became plugged, but it was easily fixed by poking it from the bottom with a very short awl (ice pick would work, too). Wave petunias look great!

I purchased three for deck. The railing fit is perfect and they look great.
While the instructions are clear as to where to drill drainage holds, it would be nice if it came already done with plugs to remove.
I also wish there was some indicator as to when the water reserve was empty.

I have these on my rails to replace the ones I had that were very old and did not sit on the rails like these do.
I'm not sure why they call these planters self watering. There is no way to just fill the reservoir like there was with the older system. The older system had cylinders that came up from the reservoir to fill directly with your hose, these do not have that. They are still very nice and fit many plants but self watering??? No.

Love the design, construction and railing fit! Color choices did not match our needs, we spray painted with an outdoor product. Too early to see how they hold up (or if the paint adheres). The water reservoir appear adequate, although the drainage holes need to be drilled out. Would advise this BEFORE adding soil & plants.

I originally bought three and then purchased four more to put around my deck. I planted marigolds to repel mosquitoes away and so far so good. The only downside is that you have to poke your own drainage holes. The pots should come with plugs one could easily remove. Also, there is no indication as to where the drainage holes should be.

I purchased these after doing a ton of searching for a saddle planter that would fit over the wide railings of a gazebo. I was pleasantly surprised to find they fit PERFECTLY- even a little on the snug side. Really dressed up the plain old gazebo.
