the product description fails to inform you that you have to use a dowel to attempt to push out the dirt in the auger bit. I bought two thinking I would gift one to my kids. I will be returning the unopened product.

To get enough power to make a hole in yard turf I needed to use a heavy duty corded drill with a LONG cord to set tree fertilizer sticks. That was a little cumbersome, but SO much easier than pounding in a stake to make the hole!

Makes planting spring bulbs easy peasy. Not quite fun, but much better than digging holes with a trowel.

cuts great hole for bulbs, but too hard to get plug out, needs a plunger system, using the wooden stick that's included takes too long to clean out dirt from last hole before going on to next hole

        Comments about Bulb Bopper®:

After reading all the reviews it's clear that Gardener's Supply needs to include more information (preferably on the website – for people like me. I lost the instructions that supposedly came with it). The "How To & Instruction" tab only talks about bulbs – nothing about the bulb bopper, which is annoying.

The day I went to use my bulb bopper I quickly found that my 14.4volt cordless drill would not work. I had to go borrow a corded drill, only to find that none of my extension cords were long enough and had to go borrow one of those too! So I wasn't too happy. Would have been nice to know what kind of drill is needed up front. For the price, I thought they could at least include depth measuring lines on the device.

It did work when I finally got all the other tools I needed, and I really like how you can place holes close to existing plants without disturbing them much.

I have compiled some of the tips I found in the reviews:

The catalog says "attach to any standard power drill" but the brochure with the planter specifies a 3 amp corded or 24 volt cordless drill.

Make sure you push the tip down into the earth a little bit before you hit the drill trigger.

        Do beware of irrigation pipes.

The device is good only on dry soil.

I used an 18v Lithium battery powered drill and dug many holes quickly.

A brightly colored, plastic or metal dowel would be even better.

Spin out the soil by rev-ing the drill a few times in an empty pot, not touching the bottom or sides of the pot.

        Hold it with both hands.

To make a bigger hole move the bulb bopper from side-to-side.

Instructions should indicate that to use it you have to work it in "reverse" drilling mode, since if used on "forward", the item is released.

BE SHURE YOU PLUG IT INTO A G.F.I. OUTLET:
(I googled G.F.I. outlets and found this information:
"If electricity flows from hot to ground through you, it could be fatal.") – GOOD to know!

Planted two hundred bulbs very quickly and easily! It was wonderful and easy to use. Fits into cordless drill and works great. Enjoyed using it so much I bought more bulbs to plant. Got it on sale and free shipping so it was a good deal.

              Comments about Bulb Bopper®:

This tool definitely made my less-than-favorite garden task of planting bulbs easier. Downsides include the fact that drilling into dirt is hard on the drill motor. I could only do about 50 bulbs at a time before the motor started to overheat and I had to let the drill cool off. This is not really the fault of the bulb bopper though. Also the hole was not wide enough for some of my narcissus bulbs. And to get a deeper hole you have to make at least two passes, cleaning out the bopper with each pass. So while it is easier, it's not exactly lightning fast. Overall, though, I'm very glad I bought this.

The description does say "standard power drill" but the picture online and catalog show a battery drill, so I ordered one. 10 minutes later I only had a dozen bulbs planted and had burned through two of my Ryobi 18 volt batteries. I read the manual and it wants a 120v powered drill. Who snakes 200 feet of electrical cord in their garden? Does this device work? Yes. Is it practical? Beyond expectations. Will I recommend it? No. Nice idea, but the description needs to be modified. I love Gardeners.com and come here often. I was just disappointed in this product. And for cleaning you include a wooden dowell? Uh, just kind of lame.

I found this product very useful and easy to use. The only "down" was the hole it digs is not wide enough for daffodil bulbs. It made planting so much easier.

              • Daffodils deliver—by far—more flowers for a longer time with less care than any other bulbs you can plant. They’ll thrive just about anywhere, and come back year after year in ever greater numbers.
              • When it comes to tulips, plant generously. Trench-planting method makes it easy.
