Frost Protection Covers Do Not Stay On!

I purchased these frost protection covers - along with the screen covers - to fit the 3' x 6' raised beds I purchased. My experience with the frost covers has been terrible! The covers blow off in even modest winds (e.g., 10-15 mph) - much less - higher wind gusts. The four hold-down loops at the corners are entirely inadequate: the wind got under the cover, lifted it up, and pulled the stakes out of the ground; the result: the frost covers blew off of the frames and exposed the plants to frost, killing them. No season-extension benefits whatsoever - what a waste of money. Absolutely poor design - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! I see this product has been discontinued; I can understand why . . .I hope Gardner's Supply will come up with a product that solves this problem - it shouldn't be that hard to come up with a workable design. I saw that one of the reviewers of this product used clothes pins to keep the frost cover attached to the frame; a workable solution, perhaps, but not one the product came with . . .

I bought this along with the 3x3 raised bed kit. I live right above Rock Creek Park, and we constantly observe rabbits, groundhogs, white tailed deer, and other pests happily eating anything in our garden. I installed this protector when I put in the earliest seeds of peas and lettuce. The lack of air mobility caused most of the lettuce to be lost to powdery mildew and similar fungal disease despite the new, sterile soil put in the new bed.
Within one month, two areas of the plastic bars had snapped, the whole thing was sagging on my peas, and I had to take it down. Without it I've lost the entire bed to the wildlife. I consider this a complete waste of money and was very disappointed.

Fits perfectly over the Plant Protection Tent, and the pins keep it firmly over the plastic walls of the Grow Bed. It's protected my turnips, chard, kale and collards through three frosts or near-frosts so far this winter!

Now I see that others have had the same experiences that I've had with the poles on the insect protection tent breaking, taking long to replace and breaking again. But I had these frost protection covers so I tried one over the old tall pop-up bird protection cover and it fits!! So at least I can use this and the shade cloth cover. I wish the old 3 by 3 pop-ups were still available!

I have a 3x3 grow bed and the frost cover fits great over that. I also have some bug protection tents sitting around the regular garden, for those, the "skirt" is about 2 inches short. It works great, nothing has been frost-bitten yet. They are easy to put over the tents and some laundry pins hold them in please if you don't want to use the loops at the bottom. In heavy wind, do use the loops!
                        Great product, not overly expensive.

You advertised this would protect down to 27 and it didn't even protect even to 29. It was also a little difficult to attach to the tent.

I ordered one of these for my 3x3 container garden. The fiberglass support rod broke in the first 2 weeks it was set up. I contacted Gardeners.com and they sent me two replacement rods (after about 2 months as they were backordered). Guess what? The new ones both broke within 2 weeks! So now I have an ugly, broken and ripped contraption on my pretty herb garden. Oh well, not gonna get a replacement. Chalk this one up to stupid tax.

This looked like a good idea. It has screening for warmer weather, and a cover for keeping it warmer when frosts come.

BUT...When we first put it together, one of the tent poles broke during assembly. We taped it together and used it, and it broke in another place while it was sitting there. We called Gardeners' Supply, and they sent out new poles. We replaced the broken pole, and the pole didn't break during assembly. It was up for about an hour or two, and I looked out and the pole had snapped. Very pitiful! Lots of work, and we have a lopsided screened tent out on our deck. We will be asking for a refund.

The screening material seems to be strong, and looks like it would last a few seasons. And it's working well to keep the rodents away from my squash plants. I also like that it has a zipper on each side, so that the plants to can be easily accessed. If they would only use better tent poles, it would be a good product. But these poles break too easily, so they don't provide the support that is needed.

We have not used the frost cover, so I can't comment on that.

The frost covers disintegrate as soon as you put them outside. Pieces of the white cover shred off on their own and get blown all over by the wind. The fabric is cheap, not waterproof and totally worthless. I have a number of these I'd like to return.
