The kit includes a two-part stacking tomato cage and 40 quarts of our exclusive Organic Self-Watering Container Mix. It also includes 1-1/2 lbs. of Gardener's Best Organic Tomato Fertilizer, an 8-5-5 slow-release fertilizer that is fortified with 4-1/2% calcium to help prevent blossom end rot.

I wanted a fresh start for my tomatoes -- new soil, a spot out of my regular garden. These containers fit the bill. My tomatoes are thriving. I am hopeful they will miss the blight this year as well, as I used Actinovate from Gardner's Supply as well. Fingers crossed. Great product.

Although a little pricey, this planter is perfect. Make sure you buy the optional casters as it adds a mobility feature that is quite useful. When the soil gets wetter - the planter gets heavier. The mobility feature also allows you to move them towards sunshine. A great invention and the people at Gardener's Supply are fantastic. They also own the company. That should tell you everything. Those Vermont Socialists know what they are doing and they are fantastic at doing it. I plan on ordering another one of these planters next season.

I love this planter! It has grown so much tomatoes and it's not even done yet. I am so pleased with this item i might buy another one next year. Anyone considering buying this all I can say is do it! Just know that if you are planting tomatoes only plant one plant. It says you can plant 1 determinate plants or 2 indeterminate plants and that is wrong. I I planted two indeterminate roma tomato plants and my one roma tomato plant was taken over by the other roma tomato plant. Not a big deal since the Roma tomato plant that is alive is producing more than what I thought was possible it just stinks that I spent the money on that extra Roma plant. This is the only reason why I give this 4 stars

It's rare that an item performs as well as or better than the marketing hype. But in this case it does. We love these self-watering containers. They are sturdy, attractive, and effective. Setup is a snap, and the included soil and amendments in the kit are fantastic. It's too early to know for sure, but the cages seem sturdy and effective. Be sure to read the instructions (better yet, watch the You Tube videos) and make sure you get the soil tamped down into base of the planter. In warmer southern climates, I highly recommend getting the lighter "stone" colored model to avoid baking your roots. A great product and we will definitely buy again!

          Great for Tomatoes

          Best Uses

          • Growing Tomatoesveges

I put two cherry tomatoes in the planter. The depth for soil is good. I especially like the overflow feature because I use a drip watering system when I am gone. If it rains hard, the excess will drain off. Love that I can add wheels to it, but it is very close to the ground with the wheels on. That didn't work so well when I had to push the planter up over a threshold into the porch when it was going to freeze.
The wire cage did not come with directions, but I was able to figure it out. The wire is less substantial than I usually use, so I am waiting to see how many seasons it will last and how it stores without damaging the cage.
One of my questions about all the plastic planters is their safety for growing things we will eat. Would love to know exactly what is in the plastic.

I own this kit only for a month so I can't comment on the "success" part but I like the kit itself. So far my tomatoes like it also though it took them a few days to adjust to changes. The kit is a brilliant idea and 4 stars are only because I don't own it for long time to judge its durability. I will update my review at the end of the year.

Easy to,put together, excellent directions, definetly buy the rollers, easy to move around the patio. Watering from top as instructed, fill the base starting June 1. I have two tomatoe plants in one, growing great, both have blossoms, looking forward to beautiful tasty organic tomatoes.
The container is well built, sturdy, love it. Have recommended it to others who only have patios to plant tomatoes. Excellent for apartment dwellers.

I use 3 of these planters on trolleys and my daughter wanted the results I get, so this was her birthday gift this spring. I included a spray bottle of Rot Stop because that does seem to be the only problem I've had using this system. As long as I can stop the rot when it rears its ugly head, we get a large crop of tasty tomatoes. The planter on its trolley is great for this senior citizen so I can move it and place it in an ideal location and don't have to be on my knees in the dirt.
