    Happy Birds

    Pros

    • Cuts Down On Spilled Seed
    • Keeps Larger Birds Away
    • Smaller Birds Fight Less

    Cons

    • From Below Hard To Close
    • Low Feed Capacity

    Best Uses

    • Feeding Smaller Birds

When filling the feeder from below sometime have trouble fastening the lid.
Fits nicely in our cedar tree which shelters the feeder and the birds waiting to feed.
Funny watching the larger black birds and sterlings trying to find a way to get in. Because less feed is knocked to the ground the less desireable birds do not stick around.

    NOT squirrel proof

Squirrel resistant, maybe - but NOT squirrel proof. Our squirrels squeezed through the cage, gorged themselves to the point that they couldn't get back out. Wish I had videoed extracting them, it would have gone viral! I still like the feeder very much even though this part is very frustrating. I thought I had found the perfect feeder.

The squirrels chewed one of the plastic plug that go in the feeding tube and it would be really nice if you could buy replacements. Because now the seed just pours out onto the ground. I have shoved a piece of steel wool in to stop the flow. I can't figure out what else to do at this point.

Squirrels are Smarter than this feeder

I thought this feeder would be great for my smaller backyard birds (it is as far as larger birds). However the top needs a better cover. I.e the squirrels have figured out how to unscrew the top and/or squeeze in between the bars. I even tried oiling the cover to make it hard, but they manage to get in still. They are so smart! If you can put it somewhere they can't get it, then it's ok.

We love this feeder. Not only is it squirrel proof but the larger birds cannot use it either. The beautiful yellow finches flock to the feeder.

I love sitting in my kitchen in the morning and at dusk and watching the birds feed. I love the architecture of the bird feeder and it looks great in my tree. I have more birds in my yard than ever! However, the squirrels figured out right away that if they climbed on it and their weight tipped it, they could get seed out of the bottom. So I used a piece of string to tie one top rib to the tree so that it couldn't be tipped. Problem solved! I love this feeder! I smile every time I see it.

Great for small birds and the pesky squirrels we have around her can't get their heads between the metal bars to get to the seed. Has my seal of approval for sure.

                                  • Small Bird Feeding

After squirrels were able to basically eat all the food from the other birdfeeders, I purchased this one. It somewhat improves on the object of keeping sqirrels out, yet they are incredible athletes, and can elongate themselves to grab the food because the top is easily opened. Add a locked device to the top, and it would be much better.

At first, the birds were wary of it being used to feeding in open feeders. It does resemble a bird cage and I could see their point. Eventually, a few birds came to feed.
