Difficult to clean

By Mamalad

from Palos Heights, IL

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

It's nice that squirrels can't get at the seed, but seed gets stuck in the bottom of the tube. The only way to clean it out is to take the bottom off with a screw driver. It's a pain and if you don't clean it out, the seed starts growing or gets moldy.

Lovely Bird Feeder!

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

Unique design! Small birds can enter the cage and feed on the seed – it makes them feel safer from the larger birds. However, the large daddy woodpeckers have figured out how to hang from the bottom of the cage and stick their heads in between the cage wires...Their beaks are long enough to grab seed from the bottom hole. They grab a few seed and fly off...not eating near as much. Squirrels can open the top lid...and, it took them less than 6 hours to figure it out. Very entertaining! Highly recommend!

Good

By Bird Lover

Pros

  • Excludes large birds
  • Great for small birds to eat in peace
  • Keeps seed well
  • Very attractive feeder

Cons

    Best Uses

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

Was tired of squirrels, grackles and the like gobbling all my expensive seed up quickly. It works for small birds. Although if desirable nuts or seed fall to the bottom, the larger birds aggressively stick their beaks in to gobble it up. They keep trying to get in-but can't.

      Squirrel proof

      By Bird lover

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

Occasionally a squirrel will figure out how to get the top off and put their paw in to gather seed. The mesh is rather small and only the small birds can get in but that's ok. The large ones can go to other feeders.

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

I've owned one of these feeders for several years and like it very much. I've had to modify it, securing the cover with screws & wingnuts after a clever squirrel discovered how to pry the top off! I'd replace it with one with three tubes for the seed instead of just one, if it were available.

          Does not keep sparrows out

          By Eric

          from New Jersey

Comments about : Mixed Seed Globe Cage Feeder:

As the title says, this feeder does not keep out sparrows, those gluttons who can empty a full feeder before the sun goes down. I bought this because I thought it would let the goldfinches in and keep the sparrows out.
But surely as an escalator becomes stairs when it breaks down, this is still a bird feeder that keeps out grackles and the like.
