For an inexpensive solution to bottom rot, this plastic disk is the obvious answer. A winter squash can look healthy with firm hard skin where you find it somewhere on the vine, often hidden in flourishing damp conditions or resting on the dirt. It looks fine on top. Its bottom side is probably bleached looking and vulnerable to rot and insect attack. Its color is no concern but holes and rot are. So elevate! This disk gadget with its stake stuck into the ground underneath makes it so easy.

Use single cradle to keep spaghetti or other smaller squash off the ground. Also works for melons if not too large. Can use two or more to hold larger fruit or squash up. Where ground is sloped can also be used to keep melons or squash in place.

Love these! I can finally grow my favorite melon's without the bee's destroying them. They no longer get soft from laying on the ground. I have 3 sets and although they could be a little bigger to accommodate larger melon's, they are the best.

These little gadgets are really great for keeping winter squash and cantaloupe off the ground and fresh and clean. Sadly they don't help keeping my pesky squirrels from taking a nip out of them. I wouldn't mind if they actually ate one, but they just take a bite, figure they don't like it, go on to the next and take a bite, don't like it, and go on. Not the brightest of animals. But cute.

BUT was a great "guess what this is used for" item at our Ag Ed Tent at this year's County Fair- no one got it correct.

This year we purchased raised beds & my son chose to plant watermelons in one. These are great to keep our watermelons off the dirt & perfect. Highly recommend them!
