Exclusive | Vermont-Built Large Garden Cart Carries 500 Pounds

  • Tough, long-lasting cart holds up to 500 pounds — as much as 10 wheelbarrows!
  • Even weight distribution and big, pneumatic wheels make pushing and pulling easy
  • End slides open for easy loading, unloading and dumping
  • VIDEO: Tour our Vermont factory

For over 25 years, our garden carts have been a beloved tool of gardeners everywhere. That’s because they were designed specifically to meet the needs of gardeners, not adapted from an industrial utility cart. The garden wagon has big wheels with pneumatic tires that roll easily over rough terrain. High sides prevent loose loads like mulch and compost from bouncing out. The axle is positioned to distribute the weight and balance the load. The long handle lets you push or pull with equal ease and has a comfortable neoprene grip. Tough, rust-proof aluminum frame; end slides open for easy dumping. Once you own one of our carts, it’s hard to imagine getting by without it. In fact, many of the original carts are still out there, working hard. Rated "Excellent" by a leading consumer magazine.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

After a nightmarish ordering process involving 4 phone calls to get tracking information, it arrived.
My son owns a construction company and he had to re-engineer the holes on the pieces as they did not line up and the cart could not be put together.
The tires are narrow and arrived partially deflated. They do not have the heft of the old cart tires.
The bolt shanks on the cart protrude after they are tightened down, some as much a half inch. This makes a potential for lacerating or scratching the hand.
Also there's an imbalance in these carts between the length of the handle and the width of the unit on the large carts that makes it awkward to use. It would be better to use a slightly longer handle on these large units.

On the plus side it does hold a lot.

I'd recommend it with reservations given the ordering issue and the misaligned parts issue, which would be serious enough for a potential owner without adequate tools or skill to put together.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

My father bought this cart over 20 years ago. I inherited it when he died. It has gone through heavy use for feed transport, lawn work, firewood gathering and moving rocks to build a dam in our creek.
I am 70 years old and feel totally empowered when working with this cart. Together we can get virtually anything done.
Don't look at the purchasing price. Look at what you will accomplish with this wonderful cart for the foreseeable future. it will not disappoint you.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I bought this cart as a present for my son. After reading reviews that mentioned difficulty in assembling the cart, I told him that assembly was included as part of the gift.

If you read the assembly instructions through, separate out the different pieces of hardware, and work carefully, putting this cart together is not a problem. My only negative comment is that some of the illustrations are not clear in their perspective. However, as you work through the steps, all becomes clear.

The only reason that I rated this as a four rather than a five is because we have not had a chance to put it to the test. I assembled it two days after Christmas. It seems sturdy and is certainly spacious. It should be extremely helpful in moving firewood, tools, and anything else on his three acres.

I had a cart of this design for years before I sold my house and moved to a condo, so I know the style of the cart is excellent. It has great balance, and it minimizes the need for great strength.

My only question as to the engineering of this particular cart is that the wheels roll freely on the axle with no spacer of any kind between the hub and the body of the cart. I wonder if the wheels will migrate to the body and create wear on the wheels or the edge of the cart. Only time will answer this question.

So, assembly is not a problem. The cart looks like a quality product. We can't wait to load it up and pt it to the test. Then we'll decide whether or nnot to recommend it to a friend.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

Had an old one of these 17+ years and it needed replacing. Bought the large cart. Wood not as good as old one - we sealed it to try to get longer life out of it. Very difficult to assemble as parts didn't align properly without great use of force. After having to replace several tire tubes - finally took the wheels off the old cart. Am looking for replacements. Very disappointing.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

Had an old Troy NY made cart that lasted 12+ years.
Then a Vermont made that used regular plywood... total mistake and NO customer service, refused to help at 3 years with rot.
This looks as well built and in some ways better than my first. Large aluminum edging and heavy steel front braket a real plus. Some issues with allignment of parts, otherwise a total 5.
Will update my review re how it holds up. Previous experience with Gardner's Supply has been great and always 5 Star.

THE QUALITY OF THE CART MATERIAL AND THE INTRUCTIONS SHEET WAS EXCELLENT. I HAVE BEEN USING IT ALL OF THIS YEAR & HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY PLEASED WITH IT

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

By far the best cart I have used. Much better load balance and construction than other cheaper carts at farm and garden stores. I have hualed the harvest, hay, fire wood, kids, tools, meat birds, and more! I take this large cart on all sorts of terrain. I think it has saved my back and made for much more productive days around the farm.

So many comments about assembly issues. I had no real issues. I almost put a few bolts in the wrong place and that definitely would have caused the problems in assembly that I am reading in some of the reviews.

The pnuematic wheels came with my cart and I would say that this is the only true down side to this product. The wheels are sloppy on the axle, the rim has a rubber band that is supposed to keep the ends of the spokes from puncturing the inner tube but it is not wide enough. After several flats and new inner tubes I figured it out and cut an old inner tube to make a new wider band and have had no flats since . The spokes are not tightened and thus make a lot of nose and will cause the rims to get out of true eventually. After about six months of use one wheel fell apart as the bushing with bearings came loose from the hub.

I woud also wrap the handle with a hadle bar wrap or somthing that would last longer. The foam is nice on cold days but gets chewed up too easily.

All that said, G.S.Co. came through with the customer support. First call tried to send me new wheels when I was getting flats. No need as I figured out problem (rubber band in rim). When the hub fell apart I did take them up on thier offer to send me two new wheels. Even though I only had issues with one wheel(no charge). They wanted to be sure that if I had an issue with the other wheel I would have it covered.

Things happen with products and the way a company deals with the issues is the test. I would definitely buy this cart again and I would recommend getting it from Gardner's Supply Co. so you have the great customer support to go with it.

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

I have a plot in a community garden, where they have a couple of carts and wheelbarrels for gardeners to borrow. I always grab the garden cart if I can! It has been used heavily for many years, and though the tires could use some pumping up, everything else is in terrific working condition.

As an example of how great this is: I'm 5'3" and not in great shape, but I've been hauling around 250lbs+ worth of soil, compost, and tools without much trouble. Dragging it across grass and up hills would make it tougher, of course, but I wouldn't hesitate to say "No problem!" to anyone who would need to haul around a lot of garden stuff.

I absolutely love this product, and am so glad that I get to work with it!

Comments about Large Gardener's Supply Cart:

First I'd say, don't order this if you are in dire need of a cart. The website said, "in stock," and it took about 5 weeks to deliver. Meanwhile, March has come and gone.

Nevertheless, the cart has arrived and I just finished assembling it. I haven't used it yet.

The quality of components are very good. The packaging was well laid out and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Everything was there and it went together with little difficulty. Assuming you have moderate mechanical skills, this cart should not pose any assembly issues. It probably took me about two hours to assemble. But, I also have a lot of assembly experience and tools to work with. In any case, it is not too difficult.

There will be a few fasteners that are difficult to start, but that is to be expected when you have holes drilled in plywood that are lining up with layers of sheet metal, brackets, and tubing. In all, I am very impressed with the build quality.

From a design standpoint, it seems very solid. I personally do not care for the removable front panel, because I would rather turn the cart over to dump the load than take the time to pull a panel with every trip and then reinstall it. I guess it depends on how you'll use it. For a single trip with delicate work, it might be helpful, but I usually have lots of mulching trips to make. However, they did a good job of reinforcing the front panel, so the frame is solid and the floating panel doesn't seem to cause any structural concerns. I think it will be like an option that I never use, but don't care that it's there. So, it's a wash.

I am curious about the wheel/axle design, because there are no spacers between the hubs and frame, so there is potential for the spokes to drag against the frame. It probably won't be an issue, and if it is, I'll fabricate a spacer. Like I said, I haven't used it yet.

The legs are bent along a flat plane, but are required to bend around the cart sides, about an inch or so. So, that puts some strain on the cart walls, and, more significantly, makes it harder to install. Not a big deal... more of a suggestion for improvement to the builder.

So far, I am very pleased with the purchase and am looking forward to loading it up this weekend. My parents have had a similar cart for about 30 years and it has endured a lot of work (with maintenance and a few repairs; new tires, stain, etc). This one looks like it could last the same. I think this cart is as good as you'll find.

If you haven't used a garden cart before and you do a lot of yard work/landscaping/hauling stuff around the lot, you'll wonder how you ever got by without one. You will scoff at wheelbarrows.
