Generally a good product

By LJ

Pros

  • Bright lights
  • Easy to assemble

Cons

  • Can't put anything heavy on the bottom shelf
  • Not quite tall enough for some orchids

Best Uses

  • orchids
  • seedlings

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

If you plan to put clay pots on the bottom shelf, as the drawing appears to show, you'll first need to find some support to put under the bottom shelf. The top shelf has a support in the middle, but the bottom shelf does not, so the rubber shelf bows significantly. Shoe boxes are a reasonable temporary support while looking for something 14.5 inches long to use as slats.

Pros

  • Great design

Cons

  • Construction problems persist

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I love the design--simple and efficient. The lights are bright but dim considerably in four months. The construction issues persist. My second unit has a significant dent and many gaps.

    Good Stand, Not Flawless

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I've purchased two of these high-intensity stands; unfortunately, some of the construction flaws continue. The plant stand works well for orchids. The lights are bright and adjustable. Most orchid plants will fit comfortably under the lights. The lights fade considerably in a short four months, so a yearly replacement of lights will be necessary. One side frame was punched incorrectly on the unit I received recently, so the bolt side was flat rather than indented as it should be. One side rail was completely misaligned because the internal nut unit was not square inside the rail. The unit also had multiple scratches and one pronounced dent. I think the simplicity of the LED units might make those a better choice.

If you own an older model be prepared...

      By Year round kitchen gardener

      from Illinois

      Verified Buyer

      Pros

      • Easy to assemble
      • Spacing between shelves allows for true garden

      Cons

      • Costs too much for the poorer quality
      • Lighter construction flimsy
      • Lighter construction of lights not magnetic
      • Older version much better and cost less

      Best Uses

      • Grows a lot of food.
      • I actually have an indoor kitchen garden

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

This one time where new version was not better. I get trying to make more profit by lightening the construction, but for the cost it should be more substantial. Not being magnetic means that I cannot use little magnets to hang foil covers to concentrate the light. Tape doesn't stick well to the metal either. They want you to buy the cover, but it doesn't seem to have zippers on both sides, so I would have limited access...and nearly a hundred more dollars. It's the right idea, but the materials are not as good as the original. Sorry gardeners this one didn't get better...just more expensive.

          Great for my orchids

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

This stand is very well made, elegant and streamlined in design, runs quietly, and my orchids are doing very well. I have two of these stands side by side in the dining room. Their light is a nice antidote to gloomy Boston days, and my cats like to hang out by these lights also! Also -- thank you for making available a product made in the United States.

          Best Uses

          • Keeping the house plants happy in the winter.

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I put my house plants outdoors in warm weather to promote growth and then, in the past, they suffer indoors during the winter months, dropping leaves, mealy bugs taking over, etc. So I bought this two tier plant light system to keep the plants happy indoors during the winter. So far so good.

My orchids love it and so do I.

          By Robin

          from Bostin

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

I really deliberated over buying this plant stand, and I'm so glad I did. My orchids are doing visibly better and flowering more. The stand itself is attractive and doesn't look out of place in a living room or dining room. I put plastic grids in the trays and added water for extra humidity. During winter I've noticed that my cats like to sit next to the stand, so they like the light too. Assembly took a couple hours and was a two-person job. Even my husband, not a plant person, was impressed by the superior quality of the stand. The only snafu was that one of the ballasts was defective, but Gardeners Supply sent a replacement.

Comments about : High Intensity 2-Tier SunLite® Garden:

Very impressed with unit. I'm not the gardener in the house, I'm her husband and primary assembler/builder of everything from kids bikes to tree houses and items like this. The unit assembled in about two hours but most of that time was spent carefully thinking out assembly challenges I might face due to poor instructions. Go slow, it's not a race, and common sense building will steer you around the problems the "slap it up" type personalities will face. The extruded aluminum gage is thick! Built in "nuts" allow the whole thing to assemble with a screwdriver eliminating the need for a third hand, or a parts management department. The trays are heavy duty in construction and need to be as the shelf spacing allows for some larger plants.

Only one minor setback, while the electrical systems are high end I had a bad cord (identified through process of elimination) and fixed with some light surgery on the bad "in-line" switch) which was preventing a light tray from working. I'm sure it would have been easily replaced but these are very rare occurrences and
those with light electrical backgrounds accept such challenges

When we turned it on even I got excited with my wife at how bright and sturdy the system was. Nice piece of equipment! Make sure you have the space. It's big but worth every nickel!

This Hi-intensity light system arrived in what looked like 1000 pieces. I had to hire someone to put it together.

Good set up for pushing plants indoors.Good for forcing bulbs, for pushing already started seedlings. Good trays. Tall space for tall plants.
Would only rec this to someone who can put a million pieces together....
