Grub Guard Beneficial Nematodes Control Your Garden's Worst Enemy

  • Contains naturally occurring, beneficial microorganisms that help control Japanese beetles
  • Attacks the soil-dwelling, grub stage of the beetle
  • Starts working within 48 hours, keeps working all summer long
  • Sprayer not included; we recommend our Hose-End Sprayer

Japanese beetles are one of the most destructive garden pests. As adults, they ravage your flowers and vegetables. As young grubs they devour your lawn's root system, and they attract skunks and moles. Grub Guard beneficial nematodes are naturally occurring microorganisms that live in the soil, feeding on Japanese beetle grubs. Unlike chemical controls, they won't harm earthworms or most beneficial insects, and they are safe around pets.

  • Contains two species of beneficial nematodes: Steinernema carpocapsae and Heterorhabditis bacteriophora
  • Sponge is 2-1/2" x 6"
  • 1 million size will treat 2,000 square feet
  • 6 million will treat 12,000 square feet
  • Also controls Colorado potato beetle grubs, cutworms, root weevils, flea larvae and other soil-dwelling insects

    Comments about Grub Guard:

Not for the easily squeamish (some people have issues with spraying creepy crawlies on their lawn), but the product was simple to apply and pretty effective. My flowers are healthier, the lawn looks better and our flea problem has disappeared. The only con was the 2 hour window to spray after the concentrate was made.

      Comments about Grub Guard:

I love these little nemotodes! Nemotodes are bacteria that use the grubs as hosts to lay there eggs. The eggs hatch and the larvae chew on the grub. Yum! The nemotodes have done an awesome job getting all the grubs in my yard. I have several kinds of grubs that hatch each spring and fall. These little nemos get them all! My yard and gardens have never been healthier. And this is so safe for all of us including our pets to be in the grass just after application.

The first time I used this was about 4 years ago. I had phoned Gardener's with a question on application (how do you know when your sprayer runs out of nemotodes and needs a refill?) Yes, put in some food coloring. It won't hurt the little guys.

Because of my freezing winters, I apply Grub Guard every spring. Warmer climates don't need to reapply. Check the product information for temperatures.

Read your directions on the package and you will be so satisfied with this product.

      Comments about Grub Guard:

Apply the Grub Guard with a sprayer that attaches to your hose. I put green food coloring in the mixture so I can tell when I am running out and need to refill. Apply in the evening or on a cloudy day and water in well. Follow the instructions for temperature and this works well on my three types of grubs. Apply again in the fall. Because of my cold winters, the nemotodes freeze, so I reapply every Spring.

Was easy to apply. Used this for the first time last year in the late summer and reapplied this spring. No more raccoons digging holes in the lawn and flower beds to get to the grubs, and all the annuals I put in this spring have developed good root systems. All the perenials have also gotten larger this year. Definitely worth the short amount of time it takes to apply.

I won't know if it worked until I see if my lawn thrives and if we have very few Japanese beetles. Not sure what all those white grubs were when I dug in my yard. I gave it a 5 because it was easy to use-not because I knew if it is effective.

                Comments about Grub Guard:

The little beasties arrived 3 days after I ordered them- which made me very happy. They were easy to apply- I was able to get the same sprayer that was back ordered in the catalog from the local farm and garden place. We applied them a little later in the spring than I think was optimal. Even though we don't really yet know how effective they were, we plan to apply again in August or the fall. We have tons of asiatic beetle grubs in perennial beds, vegetable beds, and lawn. Also have cut worms in the veg garden. Fingers are crossed!

                  Comments about Grub Guard:

I used this product in both my flower garden and vegetable garden. I was uncertain if still alive when I applied in the evening and was worried it might be too cold for them if they were alive and then too hot the next morning with a bright sun. I found the whole experience a bit creepy just thinking about a million (unfathomable) creepy crawlies that I couldn't see!! On the other hand I was quite excited about exterminating bad insects in a food chain manner without smelly chemicals. I have no way to gauge effectiveness especially in view of my uncertainty that they were even alive. If my gardens prove healthier and more productive I likely would use again. I can overcome the feeling of creep for the good of my gardens. I mixed it up in my sink and applied with a sprinkling can to give you an idea of scale. I honestly felt it was fun trying something so modern and organic.
