Exclusive | Cedar Planter Box is Easy to Plant, Tend and Harvest

At 29" high, this attractive cedar planter is the perfect height for easy growing, eliminating the need to stoop, bend, kneel and reach. It's a generous 10" deep so you can grow big plants like tomatoes and root crops like carrots. With 8 square feet of growing space, there's plenty of room for multiple crops, yielding a generous harvest. Set up one or more of these rectangular beds around the edge of your patio to create a convenient kitchen garden, or fill them with flowers for a stunning display. Like our other cedar raised beds, the sides are held in place with our sleek and sturdy aluminum corners. There's a false floor made of cedar slats, set 10" down from the top so there's plenty of root space for vegetables and flowers. Excess water drains through slats; vents in the sides allow air to circulate and excess moisture to evaporate.

Really like the concept of Elevated Beds

I purchased two of these last year (as well as the standing garden) for a number of reasons. First, as I live in AZ all the property around my house is concrete or gravel. When I moved here I thought about clearing some of the gravel for a raised bed but the profusion of rabbits in my neighborhood nixed that idea. In addition as there is a known termite issue in my neighborhood, having wet soil around my house was not a good idea. I started with standard pots on stands and that was fine for certain types of plants but I wanted something that I could use for leafy vegetables and small root vegetables like radishes. These elevated beds have been perfect for them.
One thing that is annoying to me has nothing to do with this product. In one of the elevated beds I used moisture control potting soil and in the other I used a professional non-soil growing mix that cost about 4 times the price of the potting soil. Birds have been digging up the potting soil looking for insects but have not touched the professional growing mix as that does not seem to attract insects. With an elevated bed, that means that when the birds starting digging around, not only does that disturb the seedlings I have planted but it also spills out to the ground and I end up having to clean it up nearly every day. Once the remaining plants in it have been harvested I plan on removing the potting soil and replacing it with the professional growing mix.

Ii am using this for herbs, deep root veggies. Soil settles, so need to add more potting soil as it rains. Looks great in my yard and love the cedar wood smell. I placed small step stones under the legs to keep the legs from sinking into the dirt. I like it much more than the 2 shallow (5" deep) elevated beds purchased from a big box store. Critters have a harder time climbing up the aluminum legs. My husband gave it to me last August for my birthday. Love it!

This is an outstanding product. We liked the first one so much we bought another for a different part of the yard. We stained it, although that's not necessary. It's easy to fill, plant and harvest, no bending. I highly recommend it.

I put two of these on the sunniest part of my deck. The seeds have not grown well, but I have never had any luck with seeds. The pre-sprouted plants are doing spectacularly well however. I love being able to wander out on the deck and do the dead-heading, watering, and general maintenance without long-handled tools and without getting down on my knees. Very convenient for a difficult climate and native soil and is wonderfully protected for a hard to grow area.

I am, so far, very pleased with the raised beds. As you can see from my photo, I bought several and set them up in U formations. My landscapers suggested putting stones or bricks under the legs so that they wouldn't dig into the earth, and we ended up making 8'x8' stone pads for each one, which keeps the weeds down and relieves us of the necessity of mowing underneath. It also means there's a dry, hard surface to stand on.

The cedar is weathering, which is fine with me; I'd rather have them turn grey than stay yellow. I noticed that gardeners.com sells a preservative that would halt that process.

The boxes are not as deep as they look from the outside; the planting depth is 10". That may not sound like enough, but it is plenty. The boxes take a lot of dirt as it is, and more would be excessive. The boxes come with garden fabric with which you line the boxes to keep the dirt from washing out. Don't skip that step -- I can see that it would be necessary. My soil is rather clayey, so the drip hoses are an excellent choice -- and after 20 minutes, the water starts dripping out the bottom, so I water briefly and frequently.

Not only would I recommend this to a friend, but I bought two as gifts. I hope they hold up over the years.

I was a bit nervous when I read other reviews of boards not fitting and screws being too big, but these issues must have been resolved because I was able to assemble this box by myself with just an electric screw gun in about a half hour. No problems and it looks great!

I only ordered one so I could try it out and see if I liked it. I'm using my first raised garden to plant tomatoes and peppers. Next year, I'll definitely order at least one more. I love the fact that there is no bending required to care for your garden.
