Comments about Green Stoneware Compost Crock:

This compost crock is very pretty, but it turns out the design is terrible. It's narrower at the top than lower down and, as a result, it's a struggle to pull the compost out through the opening. This is especially true if you have packed it pretty full, as I tend to do, and used a plastic bag liner. By the time you get the bag worked through the opening, the bag usually has ripped and goo is all over. In addition, there's a curious thin pottery rim around the inside of the top making the opening even smaller. That somehow chipped and created a very sharp edge which slices open the bags - and my fingers. I wanted to love this, but I am sorry to say that it has now been tossed out. I have subsequently purchased a custom-made straight-sided crock from an online merchant and it's exactly what I need. Empties in a snap.

I use this for kitchen scraps to feed to my animals. I have had some thing in there that have smelled TERRIBLE but not been able to smell it with the lid on. I don't use it for compost but it works great for what I need it for. I would need about four of them if I was to use it to make compost.

Love this crock! It is very attractive, sturdy, and absolutely indispensable in the kitchen for collecting kitchen scraps for my outdoor composted. No smell, no problems with fruit flies -- even when it hasn't been emptied in a few days! Just ordered my sister one for Christmas

This container sits on the counter by the kitchen sink. It's attractive, unobtrusive and is so very handy to collect everything for our outdoors composter.

Comments about Green Stoneware Compost Crock:

I selected this crock because it was attractive. Unfortunately, just a year later I need to replace it. First, it cracked at the opening of the crock. Later, a crack formed across the whole lid. So, while this looks nice sitting out in the kitchen, it really isn't durable enough.

It does get constant use at my house. We fill it every 1-2 days and then dump the scraps into our larger compost bin outside.

Comments about Green Stoneware Compost Crock:

Very attractive repository for scraps pending transfer to outdoor composter. Only complaint: If you use a liner bag, the shape of crock allows contents to expand too far to make removal easy -- i.e. center of crock is wider than opening. Solution: Inserted a round oatmeal box trimmed to fit vertically. Problem solved.
