Shade Netting Extends Salad Season into the Heat of Summer

  • Protects lettuce and other cool-weather crops in hot weather or warm climates
  • Also protects plants from birds
  • Choice of two lengths

Just one day of hot summer sun can affect the lush, sweet flavor of homegrown lettuce, making it bitter; a few days of hot sun will make lettuce bolt to seed, ruining it for the season. These UV-stabilized polyethylene shade nets cut summer sun by 50%, while allowing cool air to circulate freely. Use with hoops and clothespins, sold separately.

        Comments about : 6' x 6' Shade Net:

I had to cover some hydrangeas because the Texas sun was burning them. Some summers they do better than others and I don't want to move them. I draped this loosely over some stakes during the hottest part of the month and they are thriving now that the weather is cooler.

              Comments about : 6' x 6' Shade Net:

Its that time of year here in the south. Its HOT! My garden gets sun most of the day and I noticed last season my cucumbers were not happy with the intense heat of 96+ degrees. So I bought a shade net from Gardeners. It worked great! I used some garden stakes and made a pvc hoop to drape the shade cloth over the cucumbers. It worked! So this year I bought 2 more. To my surprise, these new shade cloths had a tighter weave and the main edges where sewn. Great quality and a reasonable price! So now I have one over the cucumbers and one over the Astilbe. They allow enough sunlight for the plants to grow and also protect them from the scorching sun.

Heavy duty and wind/bird resistant fabric that I use as a tomato cave. Protects my tomato babies from pesky birds who think I garden to serve them. They get to eat my currents and service berries-leave my tomatoes alone!
