Exclusive | Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler Has Two Rotating Bins

  • VIDEO: Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler
  • Produce high quality compost quickly and efficiently
  • Let one bin "cook" while you add fresh materials to the other side
  • Two bins rotate separately; each bin holds approximately 3 cubic feet

Batch composting is the fastest and most efficient way to produce high quality compost, and this dual bin tumbler makes it easy. Fill one side with kitchen scraps and yard waste, then stop adding materials and let it "cook," turning it every few days to speed up the decomposition process. In the meantime, add new scraps to the other side. When the first batch of compost is finished, remove it and repeat the process, letting the other side cook.

Recycled Plastic
  • Assembly required
  • Recycled black polypropylene, steel
  • 28-1/2" W x 25" D x 37-1/4" H overall
  • Each bin holds approx. 3 cubic feet (22 dry gallons)

      Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

I've only had this two weeks, but I like the two-batch concept, ease of use, and fairly sturdy build. What I did not like was the hour I spent assembling it. Two phone calls to Gardner's customer service, and it was done, but why couldn't the instructions have indicated which way the legs fit together?? The pieces are even stamped aa, bb, etc., but only on one end, so it's actually not obvious how they attach. Turns out you can put it together at least three ways which are wrong! Customer Service says they're used to these calls, but they'd save their time (money) and have less frustrated customers if there were simply better instructions.
Once assembled, I had major trouble with one of the two doors working very, very hard. (I notice there's another review mentioning this problem.) Since I knew how wonderful Gardner's customer service is, I called them back about the door, and they sent me another one, which works fine.
So--good product and good customer service, but they need to revise the instructions.

        Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

Assembling this composter should not be rocket science. I thought I followed the instructions properly, but when I tried to mount the axel, the frame was way too narrow for the bins. I called Gardener's Supply, and a helpful customer service rep told me that the left and right corner pieces are slightly longer on one side, and the longer sides have to be joined to form the "feet" of the composter. So I took the whole thing apart, reassembled it as told, and everything was hunky dory. But there's nothing in the text instructions about this. If I had paid closer attention to the pictures, I might have noticed that the pieces had long sides and short sides, but there's nothing to call out this feature in the pictures, and I do better with words than pictures. But anyway, it's together now, and I haven't started trying to compost with it yet, so I can't comment on that. But the drainage holes look like they'll collect rain and snow (I do compost in the winter, despite the freeze) and throw off the moisture balance. I guess I'll find out. I also wish it had wheels for moving it around. My yard doesn't get much sun, so I have to move the composter around every couple of months. At least it's small and lightweight. I bought it because my husband and I have bad backs, and our only child is off to college soon, and emptying that 5 cu. ft. round composter really hurts my back, and moving it, even with wheels, is hard. We'll make less compost without the offspring's contributions, so a smaller unit seemed like a good idea.

          Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

No need to find space for two units to keep your compost cooking and starting continuously. This product shipped promptly, and went together quickly. It stands steady and turns easily, *though neither side is carrying a full weight load of compost yet. In reading other reviews I saw comments about tubes inside the barrels that people discarded as "packing material" and I had my suspicions - which were confirmed when I started to assemble mine - these mystery tubes snapped into place in the center of each barrel as "axle sleeves." Maybe they are put in at the factory and shake loose during shipping.....

            Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

It's sturdy, easy to tumble, and clean. Got my first batch cooking within a week from table scraps I'd saved in the refrigerator and grass, leaves. It's been about a month; that first batch smells great and looks like it'll be ready in another week or so, while the second tumbler is half-full and I keep adding to it. So glad to have two separate containers. Very satisfying to watch the process at beginning and final stages side-by-side. Feel like I'm doing a science fair project and I might win first prize!

            Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

I was looking forward to this dual batch composter after trying to deal with large bin composters that are difficult to mix. The product shipped quickly, but a part was missing. After carefully reading the directions, I called to order the missed part, but it turned out to be the wrong one. So I had to call again and re-order the right part (this could have been avoided had there been troubleshooting tips on the directions). The wrong part came again, so I had to call back. Finally the right part came, but the pieces fit together very poorly and seemed very flimsy for the price. One of the covers is also difficult to slide on and off. Now that it's set up, I'm hoping it works well. I'm looking forward to seeing how the tumbling goes and hoping the results outweigh the trouble of assembly. I'm not sure yet whether I would recommend this product.

Slow to make compost, compost hard and difficult to remove from composter, poor design for kitchen compost even when brown tree leaves added 50-50. Do not recommend.

                  Comments about Dual-Batch Compost Tumbler:

was disappointed the way it was shipped, the metal pieces were loose in the box and scratched the outside of the composter. it seems like the aeration holes are too large and should be on the sides. Not very sturdy now that I have some compost in it.
                  Would not buy it again.

Much easier to rotate the pile and to empty than my old bin composter.
Compost is staying pretty wet (I live in South Florida and we have been getting the tropical afternoon rains), and still some un-composted pieces (eg. egg shells and orange skins) visible in the black muck after a few weeks of not adding anything new.

We are having so much fun using our new compost tumbler. It was a snap to set up and get started. The rotating bins make it easy to add material and to keep the compost "cooking". There is virtually no odor and even with our cool spring the bins have started heating up nicely. After just a month from the day of set up I was able to remove a 5 gallon bucket of screened compost.
