      • Can Get Many Pots Inside

I am a "pot" gardener because I live in a mobile home park. My neighbors advised that the raccoons, squirrels, rabbits and abundant species of birds will decimate the berries my only "crop". After lots of looking and comparing, I chose the 4x4 crop cage as being the right size for what this 68 year old could handle. So far so good. Keeps the dogs from eating the blueberry bushes. When the berries mature, we will see if they are safe from the other critters.

This product is a life saver. I live in NYC and I have a problem with squirrels eating the fruits from my dwarf trees. After being frustrated, I did some research and found this item on the Gardener's site. I DONT have any problems anymore because the barriers I purchase works so well. I recommend these crop cages to everyone who has drawf fruit trees and want to enjoy the fruits. They look really good and they are large enough more than one tree.

We had a little wind and seven of the eight plastic corners split and broke. One of the metal rods bent. I rebuilt it with a wooden base and used electrical tape to repair the four corner pieces needed to hold the top square together. The long upright pieces were usable. I may add some wire cross the sides to stiffen it more. The netting is great. My tomatoes will not be shredded by deer this year.

I bought this "cage" specifically to keep the hummingbirds away from my ripening tomatoes - who knew that hummers peck every tomato and leave a hole which then rots?! The mesh size of about 1/3 inch is perfect for this and would keep out other critters as well. I bought 2 of these and will buy some more. Catalog should specify mesh size as you can't tell by the picture, so I had to hope for the best.

                                • If you're trying to keep birds from your crops, any scare device will work for a few days. But the most effective technique is exclusion.
                                • Dreaming of a backyard berry patch? An asparagus bed? Start with a raised bed. A raised bed isolates the perennial crop from invasive weeds and grasses that might creep into the growing area. All have shallow roots that don't compete well with weeds and that can be damaged by aggressive weeding tools.
