Carry a Bushel of Coir Mulch in One Hand

  • Lightweight mulch block hydrates to 2 cu. ft. of mulch
  • Mulch helps suppress weeds and conserves soil moisture
  • 100% organic, biodegradable and renewable
  • One block covers 12 sq. ft. at a 2" depth; 8 sq. ft at a 3" depth
We’ve all been there: lugging heavy bags of mulch to the car, straining our backs and making a mess. These dehydrated coir mulch blocks weigh just 9 pounds and are delivered right to your door. Just add water and in 20 minutes, you’ll have 2 cubic feet of earth-friendly mulch. Made from coconut husks, coir has better water retention than bark, and reduces the temperature and moisture fluctuation by 50%. Keeps its rich color, too.

  • Each block weighs just 9 lbs, makes 2 cubic feet of mulch
  • Covers 12 sq. ft. at a 2" depth; 8 sq. ft at a 3" depth
  • Made from coconut husks

      Comments about Mulch Block:

We have a slope that leads to a retention pond. Over the years, the soil has eroded significantly. Am using it create less of a slope. It is an area a dump truck can not access, and I am not able to lift the normal mulch bags to accomplish this. I am adding plants inside handmade non-pressure treated wood boxes to hold the soil. I put this mulch around the boxes. It serves as an aid to assist in the decomposition of the "box" as well as keeping the plant in position until its roots become established and keeping the immediate area moist. It is working wonderfully! Every plant that I have used this "creation" for has not only lived, but thrived!

Wow! Love this product. Plan to use it for all future landscaping. Withstood torrential rain and hail and didn't wash away. No weeds yet either. Love the beautiful warm natural color. Reconstitute the block with garden fertilizer. Get the full benefit of green growth. Awesome!

          Comments about Mulch Block:

The only problem with the coir mulch is the same problem that wood-chip and bark mulches cause in a garden: chlorosis. All of the plants in my gardens needed extra fertilizer while the mulch was still new. After it ages for at least a season, that problem goes away. But it could be a death knell for super delicate plants.

            Comments about Mulch Block:

Have clay soil to deal with and part of our yard boarders a retention pond. Some years back not able to dig or deal with the slope to retention pond. Began making raised beds. My husband makes me "boxes". The plan has been and is to have the boxes disintegrate as the plants become established. Putting these around the boxes creates moisture that helps break down the boxes. By the time the plants are established, the boxes disintegrate leaving fantastic soil (mulch has broken down)leaving us with a larger area for roots to continue growing/spreading. This has been working for a number of years now. It is creating less of a slope to retention pond thus replacing soil that has washed away...leaving us with well established plants which help control the erosion. I realize this may not be the reason why others buy it, but it is working fantastically for us!

                Comments about Mulch Block:

I bought several blocks of this mulch this past year and used them around my garden and beds. I found that I would have to apply far more than I bought to get more than a thin layer of mulch. I had already spent a good deal more than it would have cost to buy wood chips or other alternatives, so I ended up using wood chips which were free from a local tree cutting service in addition to the coir. The coir mulch is prettier than wood chips or leaves/pine straw, so I would recommend it for smaller landscape beds or containers and use cheaper alternatives for large areas. They also will break down quicker than coir to nourish your soil.

I love this stuff -- I can carry it without having to bother someone to help me, it expands quickly, and it's easy to use. Since it's so wet, it also waters my plants! If you look at it objectively it's expensive for what you get but I'm willing to pay for the convenience of being able to work in my garden when I want to, not on everyone else's schedule.
