Watch: How to Build Cedar Raised Beds

Raised beds are easy to set up, plant and maintain, producing high yields in a compact space with less digging and weeding. And now you'll find just the right size and shape bed for your needs. Use raised beds to grow vegetables, or install the beds along a perimeter to create stunning border gardens. You can even build a pyramid garden by stacking smaller beds atop larger ones.

Each bed includes four industrial-strength aluminum corners; 7-1/4" H x 1" rot-resistant cedar lumber that's been precut to the proper lengths, hardware and instructions. Easy assembly — just slip the boards into the corners and screw them in place. (12' long ends use two 6' boards with in-line connectors.) Because we build these raised beds in our Vermont workshop, we’re able to optimize both quality and cost.

This might be a little light for the depth, haven't had it installed long enough to see if crosspiece in 12 length is sufficient to keep the sides from bowing out.

        Comments about : 3' x 12' Raised Bed:

I love the beds with one exception. The wood sides are a bit thinner than I expected. One of the short ends split when my husband drilled the corner in. We put a joint fastener on the split and it seems to be holding up.

          Comments about : 3' x 12' Raised Bed:

This is the second one I have ordered. The first lasted many years. I just recently purchased another to replace the first as it had started to rot. Easy enough to put together. I suggest pre drilling the holes before placing screws in designated aluminum corners. Makes the job much easier. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this product again. The first one I bought lasted longer than I expected.

            Comments about : 3' x 12' Raised Bed:

We have four of these raised beds, all of different sizes. In one, we grow annual vegetables, one has perrenial herbs, and the third grew garlic over the winter, zinnias in summer. The fourth will be for more garlic and winter greens. They are tidy, easy to set up and fill, and can be moved around if need be.

These went together easily with a screwdriver. So far the boxes are fine, but the real test will be next year for a full growing season. I expect the cedar to last well.

I got these because I am getting older and want to continue growing some foods for myself. These are a good size. With several of these in the garden, I am able to mulch between beds and keep production going all year. (I already have grow lights and a small greenhouse for starting plants.)
