How the Cascada planter works

Herbs, flowering annuals and strawberries look fantastic and thrive in this self-watering, 8-pocket Cascada Planter — and take less work to maintain. Three ways to display:

  • As a stand-alone planter
  • Stack two-high with the Cascada Expansion Kit for 2 Planters, sold separately
  • Stack three-high with the Cascada Expansion Kit for 3 Planters, sold separately

This all-in-one planter includes a specially formulated granular material, called Lechuza PON, that's made from nutrient-enriched pumice, zeolites and lava. The clean, attractive material wicks water up from the built-in reservoir, aerates the roots and provides your plant with nutrition. A layer of Lechuza PON spread over the the reservoir wicks water to the potting mix around your plant’s roots.

The water reservoir releases moisture as your plants need it and lets you water less often. A built-in water-level indicator tells you when it’s time to add more water. The stylish outer pot is watertight so you can place it directly on furniture without worrying about leaks. Inside, a matching liner easily lifts out, making it easy to change plants, repot, trim roots and rinse leaves. For outdoor use, there's a removable drainage plug on the bottom of the pot. From the makers of classic Playmobile® toys, award-winning Lechuza planters are crafted in Germany from durable, shatterproof, UV-safe plastic.

The Cascada planter includes the container, platform, water level indicator with corner sleeve, and granular potting mix.

Comments about : Cascada Stackable Self-Watering Herb Planter, Single:

I bought this to be a kitchen garden, ex. herbs & garnishes. I thought I could easily transfer between indoor & outdoor depending on the season. There is a plug at the bottom of each level. Unplugged for outdoor, so rainwater can drain, plugged for indoor, so it won't drain onto your floor. Once you have filled the planters there is no way to change the plug status. The bottom of the extension kit (I purchased the 3 level option) is 24 inches in diameter, so quite large. I decided to purchase a "catch pan" to place underneath for overflow, it's a difficult size to accommodate. I eventually found a utility drain pan for a water heater that will work. It's not as attractive as the planter itself but my hardwood floors are protected. The planter itself is very well made, I anticipate many years of use. My herbs are just starting out but I anticipate success!
