Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail Keeps it Simple

  • Practical and attractive way to collect kitchen scraps
  • Easy to clean; resists odors and stains
  • Holds one gallon

The perfect match for today’s sleek, modern kitchen, this pail is also extremely practical. Stainless steel won’t take on the odors or colors of onions, garlic and other pungent food scraps. It easily rinses clean and is dishwasher-safe, too.

  • Stainless steel
  • 7-1/4" in diameter x 7" H
  • 1-gallon capacity
  • Dishwasher-safe

  • Lid Handle Fell Off
  • Started Getting Rust Spot

Best Uses

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

I loved this bucket at first, but gradually it started to get rust spots around the outside and today the handle fell off. No way to reattach it. Looks like it got rusty and just detached. We've had it for about 2 years. I would only recommend it if you don't mind replacing it every two years.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

Oh where or where do you put the scraps. Now you have a solution to replace the plastic container that the berries came in or the less used plastic container. I can fill it over a week, the lid keeps the smell in and there is no dripping on the way to the outdoor compost bin. And it looks sleek on the counter.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

Several previous reviewers indicated the pail was flimsy & leaks. My pail is sturdy. For ease of cleaning I line it with 2 plastic produce bags from the grocery store. Our diet is mostly fresh & raw. Just the 2 of us fill the pail in 2 days. I expect to get lots of use out of it. Looks so much better than ice cream pails I was using.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

We gave this to my in-laws for Christmas - she really liked it. It replaces a ceramic bowl, which attracted white-flies and mold.
What I wasn't ompletely pleased with was the lack of a retro-styled version without vent holes (and therefore required continuous re-orders for filters). I didn't feel it was appropriate to saddle them with this requirement since it was a gift, but a retro style would have worked better with thier interior.
However she genuinely loves it and I expect see it at their vacation home the next time we visit.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

The stainless steel is more attractive than my old plastic beverage pitcher. We use it for coffee grounds and produce scraps. It holds a good bit. I chose this to avoid the complication of the ones with filters in the lid and odor is not a problem. Unfortunately, if you grab the top knob with wet hands, the bowl shape of the lid directs water to the base of the knob which is attached with a steel bolt. After a few days of use we noticed rust at the base of the knob. I unscrewed the knob, cleaned it up, and reinstalled with some clear silicone sealant. We use dry hands to open the bucket now, and have not seen the rust return. But for the money, this shouldn't be necessary.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

This is our second compost container and sits on our kitchen island for all to see, where there is a sink and where we prepare veggies and fruits. Very durable (stainless steel) and nice looking. Is smaller than our main compost container (placed next to the dish sink for table scraps) so requires emptying more frequently. We would have preferred one similar but larger, but we are very pleased with it nonetheless.

Comments about Brushed Stainless Steel Compost Pail:

Had high expectations with this one thinking not having the aeration holes would deter fruit flies.... Wrong!! It's actually worse because the inside is not getting aerated, and everytime you open the lid, it really smells bad. Also a lot of condensation collects inside, again due to no aeration, makes it quite messy.

The lip of the lid is very thin, and doesn't close easily. I used to have a ceramic one that had rubber gasket with tight closure which I loved.

The metal is quite thin, and I can see that it would get banged easily.

The only good thing is the shape of the pail that is wider on top, which makes it so easy to dump the compost.
