Additional Information

Exclusive | Beneficial Bug House Welcomes Pollinators and Pest-Eating Insects

  • Invite beneficial insects to take up residence
  • Solitary bees, like mason bees, help pollinate plants; ladybugs and lacewings help control pests
  • Attractive, durable design combined with functionality and convenience

Like a three-story inn for beneficial insects, this attractive insect house provides just the right habitat for some of gardeners' best friends. Solitary bees will nest in the bamboo "upstairs" and the holes in the first floor wood block, so they'll be ready to pollinate your garden come spring. The middle floor will attract pest-eating lacewings and ladybugs; the door opens so you can add a bit of dried grass and a few twigs for them to settle on. We designed the house to the exacting specifications of the insects so they'll feel right at home.

    Comments about Beneficial Bug House:

I ordered this product for my garden in order to start an insect hotel.
This B&B's entrance openings for the bees and ladybugs are very roughly done and in my opinion not safe for insects to enter and live in.
The bee holes should have been drilled at an 45 degree angle upwards, the bamboo stalks are too big in diameter to invite mason bees. The ladybug slits are riddled with splinters. Other parts of the outside of the box are smooth.
For decorative purposes it would be fine but not inviting for insects if you are serious about that part..
It also arrived already broken at the roof in the box.
For this price I expected more quality.

This is the 2nd bug house I purchased from Gardener's Supply. The 1st one I bought a year ago and is still very sturdy plus attracted many insects over the summer.

              Comments about Beneficial Bug House:

This is a really cool idea for a gift. I had to laugh when I opened it, because my roof arrived broken, too. Thanks for the other comments otherwise I would have just wrapped it and given it to my sister-in-law for Christmas without looking. The roof was split at the eave, and will likely be able to be glued securely with some carpenters glue. More stars if the roof wasn't split apart.

              Comments about Beneficial Bug House:

I think the design is charming, and I am looking forward to seeing how the insects take to it in my bee & butterfly garden, now that my husband has glued & nailed the broken roofs back on. Unsightly but hope it works for the bees, ladybugs, and lacewings. Also there could be more complete directions - like how high up to hang them. Won't know if I would recommend them until I find out if the targeted guests use them.
