    Smaller than you think

    Pros

    • Easy to put together

    Cons

    • Smaller than advertised

    Best Uses

      Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

It said the smaller one was good for a 10-14 inch container. The container I used is 10in in diameter and unfortunately the self-watering base is smaller than 10in and allowed dirt to fall down around the reservoir. This would not be a huge problem if your base is opaque and aesthetic is not what you are going for. I bought this for aesthetic reasons for a project so it did not work out. I should've bought the bigger base for the 10in container.

          Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

We use these all the time but always have to modify them. It would be great if they had deeper water wells in them. Most of our pots are quite tall and I live in a hot dry climate... I need all the water holding capacity I can fit.

          Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Easily fit my container pots and appear sturdy for the most part. I bought 5...one flip cap came already broken and the caps don't snap very securely to the fill tube but that is not a major problem. Looking forward to less watering and healthier looking plants! If they work as well as I think they will I will be ordering more.

Solution for water supply pipes that are too short for pot

            Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Here's my follow up review. For the water supply pipes that are too short for the pot, try this: Buy a length of pvc pipe with an inside diameter of 1 1/4 inches. Remove pipe that came with unit. Measure depth of unit's reservoir. Place a yardstick across the top of the pot and measure from bottom to yardstick. Mark pvc with depth of pot at one end and depth of reservoir at the other. Make vertical cuts between the end of the pipe and the mark for the reservoir depth, every 1/4 inch all the way around, so that you have little slats at one end of the pipe. Stick the slat end into the reservoir. The slats will give just enough so that the pipe, which is a bit too large, will fit into the hole in the reservoir. The space between slats will allow water to flow into the reservoir. Bore a hole in one place on the clean cut (top) end of the pipe and an end cap that fits the pipe. Use a zip tie to connect the end cap to the pipe. I used a dremel with a plastic cutting blade to do the cutting.

This product was easy to install in our large container. The nicest part of using this is that we are able to spend our weekends away without worries of plants wilting, even if weather is hot.

has a lot of air space around the wings wastes lots of soil filling in around and makes pot heavier. constructed ok seems to be working with my veg.

wish they had dimensions on site.
