    Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

I only used the larger conversion kit. The watering stem doesn't lock in place and can move up and down. If the soil level is to high dirt can fall in the tube because it moves down when you replace the cap.
There has been so much rain, I cannot judge if the roots are getting to the soil or not.

      Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

This conversion kit was helpful because I can use my own planter with the benefits of self watering. My plants have not yet established enough of a root system to benefit from the self watering feature. I hope by the time I go on vacation in August I will not have to worry about being home to water for a week. I give it four stars until I know it will work. I will revisit after vacation.

4' Morning Glories in 4 Weeks!

            Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

Last year - in the same pot and the same spot, my morning glories never got more than 5' high and made less than 10 blossoms on as many stalks! I have to travel frequently for work and, while a neighbor tried to help me keep the pot water, I knew the flowers were simply too dry.
This year I decide I was finally going to invest in a self-water insert that I'd seen in the Gardener's supply magazine. Unfortunately, the size of the pot it fit was not clear and when it arrived, I discovered it was too small. I ordered another, larger one, thinking I'll use the small one for one of my indoor pots but I was worried that I'd waited too long to start my seeds and the season would not give them time to grow enough.
That worry was a waste of my energy. When I returned home 4 weeks later,I was STUNNED to find that my morning glories had already reached the top of the 4' trellis in the pot!! My plants are lush, healthy & beautiful and I know that pot is going to draw a lot of comments from the neighbors.
And was this easy to use? Once I got the correct size for the pot, I turned the unopened box over to my 11 year old son and said, "Let me know if you need help". He scoffed when he glanced an the directions and had everything set up in 5 minutes.
I'll be eager to see how the unit lasts - I hope for many years. I know I'm n ow planning to get them for all my pots. What a fabulous idea!!

Modify to Use in a Taller Pot

            • Fit My Pot Perfectly

            Cons

            • Float Deteriorates

            Best Uses

              Comments about Self-Watering Conversion Kits:

The Fill Tube was too short for my pot, but schedule 40 electrical conduit is a similar outside diameter. The conduit is readily cut to length, and with a little snipping around the hole in the platform, the conduit slides right through. Save the Fill Tube Cap for the top of the conduit, otherwise lots of pests will breed in the water below.
The float on the fill tube gets rapidly covered in green scum and.
