Take Composting Into the Classroom


Composting, and especially worm composting, is an activity that most kids just can't resist. There's something about soil and worms and banana peels that really turns them on. And when kids learn about composting, there are many related lessons that ride along, such as gardening skills, recycling, and nutrition.

Worm Chalet
The Worm Chalet is a fascinating learning tool for kids.
Gardener's Supply has donated a number of worm composting bins to elementary schools here in Vermont. This school year, we will be working with the Composting Association of Vermont on a pilot program to get more elementary school children involved in worm composting. Six area schools will be chosen to receive worm bins, educational materials, and several visits from a composting expert. Based on what's learned this year, we hope to expand the program throughout the state.
