White Clover is the Secret to a Lush, Low Maintenance Lawn

Before the widespread use of herbicides, most lawns contained white clover. As it grows, clover ensures healthy turf by adding nitrogen to the soil and choking out weeds. Dutch white clover is well suited to lawns as it is a low-growing variety and has good drought resistance.

  • A tried-and-true herbicide-free way to control weeds
  • White clover adds nitrogen to the soil
  • Well-suited to lawns because it is low-growing
  • Drought-resistant
  • Top seed an existing lawn or mix with regular seed for new lawns

I haven't sown this seed yet. While I know how to go looking for sowing instructions, it would be nice if the company put them in with the seed.

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I bought White Clover Seed for my front yard which just doesn't sustain grass well. I was delighted not only that the clover germinated so quickly, but couldn't believe how much of the seed germinated. This summer has been 90+ degrees for weeks and the clover is hardy and healthy. I just couldn't be happier with the quality of this product. I have just ordered more!

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I've purchased 15 or more bags of this seed! It's amazingly versatile--great for the bare spots where my dogs always park themselves, as well as the shady spots and the full sun sloping areas of my yard where nothing else will grow (and, believe me, I've tried every type of grass seed out there). It has sprouted and grown luxuriantly within 2 days under the most adverse conditions--searing heat, torrential downpours and with my dogs continuing to lie on the area, unlike another brand of white clover seed I purchased. A great green alternative!

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I am replacing my experimental thyme lawn with clover- very hopeful about the results!
Parts of my side yard where I've let clover creep in (currently 2/3 clover, 1/3 thyme) get green earlier in springtime than my neighbors' yards, stay green longer, feel lovely on bare feet, and don't really need mowing.

I was very impressed to see that every seed I've planted has sprouted- and very quickly!

I would have appreciated some basic planting instructions. Knowing how long to wait for germination would be helpful- I had first used some clover seeds that were a free gift from a local beekeeper, with no expiration date or instructions. I cleared a lot of earth for those seeds, then waited waaaaay too long to realize they were too old to sprout.
I planted these seeds from Gardener's Supply after a brief rain shower, followed by about three days of rain. During a dry moment, I went out to peek at them, and found vigorous little seedlings everywhere I'd hoped to. Very happy.

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I have a woodchuck who lives under my neighbors shed but eats at my garden. I have put the white clover all around the shed because he seems to love the clover best. Maybe I can save my black eyed susand and zinnias this year.

When the clover came, the plastic bag that it was in had a tiny hole in it so it had seeped out into the box. Not a problem, however.

Love white Clover. It grows quickly and fills in bare spots. Clover puts nitrogen back into the soil ahd helps the lawn. It also chokes out weeds. Low growing and easy care with infrequent mowing. I wish my whole lawn was clover.
