White Clover is the Secret to a Lush, Low Maintenance Lawn

  • A tried-and-true herbicide-free way to control weeds
  • White clover adds nitrogen to the soil
  • Use to top seed an existing lawn or mix with grass seed for new lawns

Before the widespread use of herbicides, most lawns contained white clover. As it grows, clover ensures healthy turf by adding nitrogen to the soil and choking out weeds. This Dutch white clover is well suited to lawns as it is a low-growing variety and has good drought resistance.

  • To top-seed an existing lawn, apply 2 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft.
  • For new lawns, mix 1 oz. per 1,000 sq. ft. into regular grass seed
  • Grows 4-8" high
  • Will flower if allowed
  • 1/2 lbs. seed will provide nitrogen to 250 sq. ft.
  • Comes in a resealable bag

Quick growing ground cover for bare spots. Trying as a fill in for female dog urine damage. To early to tell if it will keep on growing and spreading, and avoid being killed like blue grass.

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

You requested this review too early for me to comment on much about this clover. It arrived very promptly, which was greatly appreciated. It germinated so fast that I couldn't believe it was actually the clover we planted only 3 days prior. That was a week ago, and it has grown it's second
pairs of leaves, confirming that it really is clover, and doing very nicely!

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

Planted seed to fill in construction gaps in lawn. We've had a long, slow spring, so the clover is up and growing. I intend to use the remaining seeds as a cover crop in gardening boxes when the growing season ends. Hint: To simplify seeding, mix the tiny seed with an inert substance such as sand in a shaker container.

I bought this clover seed many years ago when I lived in another state and another house as it was low maintenance. Now in a new state and a downsized house, I was so glad to have refound Gardner's supply and the clover...still low maintenance, fills in all the bare spots, lovely to see all the green, and the dogs love to roll in its cushiness! Will keep on purchasing.

Comments about White Clover Seed, 1/2 Lb.:

I read a blog about a person filling all bare spots in her lawn with clover. That got me interested in using clover along with grass and the many benefits such as fixing nitrogen into the soil, less need for water to stay green, and attracting pollinating bees (a plus for me). I ordered this clover in August of 2012 when grass was dying from the midwestern drought. I kept it moist and it sprouted well and has come back this spring. I just placed another order so I can fill more bare spots during the cool spring weather.

Mixed with grass seed to help quickly fill in dog damaged areas of lawn. The clover started before the grass seed and is filling in quite nicely. Hoping that this will help out in this tough area of the yard.

I re-ordered this year as pleased as I was with a smaller quantity last year. The clover even stayed green through the winter in some spots and that in spite of sub-zero temps, buried in snow. Looking forward to a full season of growth because I just moved here mid-season last year.
It flourishes in my yard, can bear traffic, and does well in spite of the drought.
