New | Frame and Covers Create an Ideal Growing Climate in your VegTrug™ Patio Garden
- Outfit your VegTrug™ Patio Garden with a convenient frame plus durable greenhouse, insect, frost and shade covers
- Protect plants from cold temperatures, harsh winds, heavy rains, insect attack and harsh sun
- Designed to fit the VegTrug Patio Garden, sold separately
The VegTrug Frame & Greenhouse Cover creates a protected microclimate for plants in your VegTrug. You can start planting earlier in spring and extend the growing season later into fall for an even bigger and better harvest. The easy-to-install, 21"-high steel frame installs in minutes with convenient push-fit connectors, and the reinforced polyethylene greenhouse cover has heavy-duty stitching and zippers. The cover slips snugly over the frame and attaches with strong VELCRO® brand tabs. Zips open for ventilation and easy access to crops.
Once the weather warms up, you can replace the greenhouse cover with the Vegtrug Insect Cover, sold separately. The polyethylene micro-mesh cover protects plants from insects, birds, harsh winds and hungry deer. To install, simply remove the greenhouse cover from the frame, and then install the insect cover in its place. Attaches with strong VELCRO® brand tabs. Zips open for ventilation and easy access to crops.
For extra frost protection, use the VegTrug Frost Cover, sold separately. Made from nonwoven polypropylene, it protects plants from cold temperatures, wind and frost, allowing you to extend the growing season earlier in spring and later into fall. To install, simply remove the greenhouse cover from the frame, and then install the frost cover in its place. Attaches with strong VELCRO® brand tabs. Zippers allow easy access to plants.
Hot summer sun can burn tender seedlings and make cool-season crops like lettuce turn bitter. The UV-stabilized polyethylene VegTrug Shade Cover, sold separately, cuts summer sun by 50%. It covers the top of the VegTrug and extends 10" down the sides. This leaves the lower sides open so air can circulate freely around plants. To install, simply remove the greenhouse cover from the frame, and then install the shade cover in its place, securing it with the VELCRO® brand tabs.
Note: The VegTrug Insect Cover, the VegTrug Frost Cover and the VegTrug Shade Cover are designed specifically for use with the frame from the VegTrug Frame & Greenhouse Cover set

I had thought that this would be a good product, but is not as I'd like. It protected for a bit, but as plants grew, had to remove it. My husband had to use plastic tape anchors to hold it to the frame. Still love the trug though

I have always had a black plastic garden except for the past 7 years. Never wanted to till this backyard up and this was the perfect solution. We are in our mid-50's and not in the best shape but wanted homegrown veggies. Within a couple of days of planting in Gardener's soil, the plants just took off! It was unbelievable how fast they grew and how healthy they look. So far, I love it.

One week in use: very happy. Transplanted into it our early lettuce, spinach, kale, parsley. Eating greens from it daily. Meets my goal of making early greens easily accessible, because our main garden, here in zone 7 in the high mountains, is heavily-covered until mid-June with row covers against the harsh weather as well as netting against the small critters who get inside the deer fencing: ground squirrels, voles, & quail take a big toll on early plantings in the ground. Wonderful to have salad easy to get at now.
Assembly - 1 hr/2 ppl (one very handy with tools). Lotta screws--screw gun really helps! Watch out for parts done wrong by mfr. One of our sideboards confused us for a minute b/c the brass brand label had been mounted upside down, making the pre-drilled holes wrong. (We just went with the holes and left the label upside down, oh well.) Also, check your item right away when it arrives, as ours had the small boards split by the screws in mfg. Gardeners Supply sent a replacement quickly, but it still delayed the project. Really value GS's commitment to standing behind their product.
Bed liner - seems flimsy and smells like petrochemicals. Replaced it with some heavier weed mat fabric we had on hand; not sewn-to-fit like the one provided, but non-stinky and might last better.
Capacity - plenty of soil for real plants, plenty headroom under the cover for our full-size lettuces & spinach. When the kale reach full height they might feel cramped by the 24" tall cover, but by then we hope the cover can come off.
Drainage - perhaps too good for our dry climate.
Covers - all 3 seem well-made, and good materials. Greenhouse cover and insect cover zip/unzip all the way across the center. Shade cover slides on nicely, very easy on/off, can go over the insect cover easily. Frame seems strong enough, metal tubes connected by plastic joints. Easy assembly on that. Insect cover is useful protecting tender plants from heavy winds here, as well as against insects.
Frost protection - greenhouse cover does a good job, but note that the soilbed is quite exposed to winds and cold temps...soil got to 32* last night...we plan to add insulation at some point.
One concern - packaging on greenhouse cover mentions lasting 2 seasons....yikes...we expected way more than that and will take good care to keep it longlasting if possible.
Overall - it's well designed, fairly well-made, pretty to look at, and highly useful. I'd give it 5 stars if the problem with mfr's quality control were fixed. I love mine and hope to enjoy it for many, many years.

I was afraid that this cold streak was the end of the great start my plants were getting in the Veg Trug. But leaving both the Greenhouse cover and the frost cover on has worked perfectly. Last night I added a shop light as we got into the twenties and all the plants still are doing fine! Great product.
It works really well in Northern California . I was able to grow lettuce and broccoli all winter.
I bought the Veg Trug as a gift. I also included the insect cover( $29). I didn't realize a frame was not included.
Dilemna:
The frame is not sold separately but only in combination with a plastic greenhouse.($59.)So to make my gift useable it will cost more than I'd like.
We are going to use the greenhouse cover for starting our seedlings this spring. I am impressed with how the cover fits so well on the vegtrug.

You don't have to bend over to work in this "garden". It is also easy to water. There will be NO weeds (or very few). I did have a problem with the liner, but it was quickly replaced.
