I have a mounded area with a large maple tree in my yard. The top 2/3 of the mound are always dry because water runs off. The tree is too big for the ring so I set the ring behind the tree and use it like a soaker hose. Sometimes I will put the hose end in the ring and turn it on only a trickle and get very deep watering without run off.

This watering ring has changed the way my trees look. The deep watering they now get has given me the great pleasure of seeing blooms I have never seen and my plum tree finally has fruit! A great alternative to a slow drip hose!

we purchased one ring last year and three more this year. Evan though it drains quicker than we thought it would, it still allows for more deep root watering. It allows us to have a better idea how much water the trees are getting, and we know the fertilizer is going where we want it to.

we have alot of clay in the soil - so keeping good hydration to young trees is a challenge. Texas summers are really hot and dry - but my trees thrive!

We put these on a bunch of new trees and bushes in our new back yard. Take a look at the picture on this website. You cannot just lay the ring down and make it work. When the ground around the tree is bumpy and uneven, the ring loses all it's water within an hour or two. You have to fix the soil so it is soft and level and then push the ring into the soil. I cannot really verify how well that works because we didn't want to take the time to do it. We only tried on a couple of plants and it did seem to work much better. My husband gave up and laid a soaker hose beside most of the trees and watered them that way. He didn't want to take the time to make the soil that perfect around each tree. If you have a lot of trees, it does help you water without standing over the tree/bush for two long. We left the lids off and filled the tanks, then let the ring water the trees for the next hour. It does a slower job so the water goes to the roots and not bounce onto the grass next to the tree. That was a little helpful. I bought a lot of them and we found them disappointing and too much work for our clay/rocky soil. If I did it over again, I would only buy a couple for difficult trees that were way out of the sprinklers range.

I have several of these water rings around my fruit trees and they're terrific. We live on an acre, so dragging the sprinkler down to the fruit trees wasn't easy or efficient. The rings hold 5 gal. and take the water right down to the root zone instead of evaporating. I've told several people about these rings and they've all bought them as well.

I am using on new plantings. Water drains out too quickly. A 3 gallon recycled plastic litter container with small holes is just as efficient.

The holes are too large for water seepage purposes. I filled the container with water and fertilizer thinking it was going to seep out slowly over at least a couple of days, but instead it drained in a couple of hours. I could have watered and fed the shrubs and trees myself without the containers. I was only trying to save the daily chore of watering the young trees which I planted recently.
