Exclusive | Topple-Proof Cages are the Sturdiest Tomato Supports You Can Buy

  • Our sturdiest tomato cages are ten times stronger than common cone-shaped wire cages
  • Strong enough to support big, fruit-laden plants
  • Keep plants securely upright, even in windy locations
  • Set of 2

More than cages, these supports are fortresses that guard your tomato plants to prevent toppling under heavy loads and during high winds and heavy rains. In our garden tests they withstood more than ten times the horizontal pulling force compared to common cone-shaped wire cages! So when summer storms roll in, you can rest assured that your tomato plants will remain safely upright. The supports are made from heavy-duty, powder-coated, solid steel stock. You can install the legs as deep as you need (at least 8", deeper in sandy soil) and then attach the bottom ring right on the soil for extreme stability. Set the other rings at any height — lower to support shrubby plants, higher if you prune lower leaves. Each cage has three upright supports and four rings to create a generous 18" diameter support that is about 50" high (depending on how deeply you install the uprights).

The extensions allow you to increase the height of your Topple-Proof Tomato Cages by 28", transforming them into Topple-Proof Tomato Towers. Each extension includes three upright supports that fit over the cage uprights and two support rings.

  • Powder-coated steel, EPDM (synthetic rubber) O-rings
  • 18" in diameter x 58" H overall; approx. 50" H installed
  • Uprights are 5/16" solid steel
  • Rings are 7/32" solid steel
  • Extensions are 30" H overall, 28" H installed
  • Folds flat for easy off-season storage

        Topple-proof tomato cages

Although the cages were almost impossible to assemble (the rings did not fit on the poles) and took over 3 hours to assemble all four, they are the only cages in my garden still standing without 8' stakes. I would definitely purchase more, but next year would assemble them well in advance of the 100 degree weather!

              • Frustrating to Assemble

              Best Uses

Stakes would not slide thru the rings easily. Everything has to be perfectly aligned in order to assemble. Paint scraped due to fit being too tight. Diameter of the cage is large so I needed to put timber stakes inside the cage. These things come apart for easy storage but there is no way I am taking them apart this fall.

The materials are very sturdy; however, this was one of the most difficult "simple" items to put together. If all uprights are not perfectly straight, the hoops don't fit on them easily. Also, it seemed like some of the rings on the hoops were a little too small to fit on the uprights, and it getting them into place, some of the paint was scraped off the uprights. Most of my tomato plants are indeterminant varieties, and get very viny...I don't think that the number of hoops included will be enough to adequately contain the plants. Bottom line, for the cost and difficulty of construction, I would not recommend this item.

1 of the cages worked well but was difficult to slide the tings onto the post. The second came apart at the welds and I used zips ties to hold it together. The do seem to be supporting my tomatoes plants well.

I bought these to use with my tomato plants because the products at the hardware stores always tip over for me. These cages are well made and sturdy. I did have a problem assembling them because the paint seemed to be too thick for the rings to slide over the posts. My husband had to use his drill to clean the paint out of the inside of the ring that slid over the post so that it would fit. A bit time consuming but it did make it work. I recommend this product with the added advice of using the drill for assembly.

Trying these this year for the first time. My kitchen garden is adjascent to the stone foundation of my historic house, and I needed a support that could stand up even if it couldn't go deep into the soil. These are perfect! I can put each pole in separately to whatever depth I can get them each to individually, and then put the rings on to link them together. This does make it difficult to get the rings on, because everything is not exactly in alignment, but I managed, and they look very nice in the garden.

I have already rated this item. In checking the web page for this item, it seems that my rating makes it unanimous. Assembly is horrendous. My rating of one star is due to the fact that there is not a no-star option.

This was next to impossible to put together. The hoops do not slide easily over the posts, and it is extremely difficult to get the hoops level or to get the posts to remain straight. I ended up having to use a rubber mallet to force the hoops down the posts because otherwise they simply wouldn't move. It seems sturdy enough, but not enough to be worth the hassle of putting it together. I would have returned it, but the box was so big that the return shipping would have cost half of what I paid for the item. My advice would be to go with another product that has consistently received good ratings on this website. I wish I had.

It took 2 1/2 months for these tomato towers to arrive and I was disappointed after the wait. The assembly was very awkward -- definitely a two person job. I hope they are as "topple proof" as they were advertised. They apparently do lie flat for easy storage, but that means they must be disassembled at the end of the season. I certainly don't look forward to having to assemble them again. Other tomato supports actually fold flat for convenient storage without being disassembled. No mention of "Made in China" was made in the listing.
Packaging was also not great. The box was partially open -- held together by strapping. Parts had come out of the plastic packaging. Not a happy experience after such a long wait.
