Exclusive | Bountiful Tomato Plants Right on Your Doorstep — with Grow Bags

  • Grow tomatoes in any sunny spot!
  • Made from patented, double-layer polypropylene that lets roots breathe
  • Grow Bags make the most of limited space and fold flat for off-season storage
  • Shown with the Tomato Cage, sold separately

For years now, gardeners in England have made the most of very limited garden space by growing vegetables, greens and herbs in plastic bags placed on steps, patios and landings. We’ve made improvements and achieved terrific results — and you will, too! First, our Tomato Grow Bags are made of patented, double-layer polypropylene instead of sheet plastic. This felt-like fabric breaths better, so your plants won’t suffer from heat build-up, overwatering, or poor aeration. Plus, our fabric air prunes plant roots, resulting in a strong, healthy root system. We’ve developed a Grow Bag for many popular crops — shallow for salads, deep for tomatoes, peppers and potatoes. That means less planting mix to buy and better results.

  • Patented two-layer, BPA-free polypropylene fabric
  • 14-1/2" square x 16" H
  • Holds 73 quarts of planting mix
  • Made in USA
  • Gardener's Supply Exclusive

Comments about Colorful Tomato Grow Bag:

The last few years my vegetable garden has been plagued by late blight. I did not want to put in a raised bed that wasn't moveable to be able to have fresh dirt for the plants. The grow bags offered by Gardener's Supply are a good alternative to a raised bed. They fit nicely inside the tomato tower cage and fresh dirt can be added each year. This is the first season I've used them and my tomato plants are larger than normal, possibly due to the added warmth provided by the bag to combat a cool midwestern spring. The only complaint so far is that the bags require two people to fill, one to hold it open and the other to pour the dirt, since the sides are readily collapsible. I was pleasantly surprised when they were combined with the tomato cages since the bags looked a bit goofy when I received them in the mail.

Comments about Colorful Tomato Grow Bag:

This is the 2nd year I've used these grow bags. I like them because I can control the soil content, and move the plants, if necessary. And if I kept them until the next year, the soil could be emptied in the fall, and the bags folded and stored flat.

Last year I got the really pretty periwinkle blue bags. But the soil stains the outside of the bags after a while, so then they didn't look so pretty. I threw those out last fall, but only for cosmetic reasons. I could have used them again. This year I got the black bags. But already the outside is looking stained. Oh, well.

The only thing I don't like about these bags is that it is difficult to put in a climbing trellis or cage for the tomato plants. I suppose one could cut holes in the bottom for the spikes of the trellis to go down into the ground. But, that would be difficult. I manage by just sticking the trellis in to the bottom of the bag, and with the soil wet, it is fairly stable. Until we get some real wind.

Comments about Colorful Tomato Grow Bag:

Despite having so little garden space, we are determined to enjoy growing things.
With Gardener's Supply 'Grow Bags' we were able to place our tomatoes in an area where we could not dig, but that has an ample amount of sun!
We are totally delighted and plan to buy more bags for our green peppers and cukes, etc.

        Thank you Garden Supply!
Other purchases we have made for gifts to fellow gardeners have been equally enjoyed.
We rely on you :) and look forward to your catalogs and emails messages.

Comments about Colorful Tomato Grow Bag:

I absolutely love my grow bag! My only regret is that I did not order the bag/cage combo. My plants are all doing so well in the bags. I have to container garden my veggies due to light conditions in my yard. I'm finding that the plants are doing much better in the bags than they have done in pots in previous years and it's probably due in part to the increased circulation/ventilation of the bag. The bags can be colorful on your deck/patio area too and they are extremely easy to move. I can move them myself without asking my husband for help!

I bought this because of a rabbit problem.
The bag is high enough to discourage animals even thought it is on the ground. I was able to match the color to my deck and it also looks great.
This is my first year so I can't really say how it will look next year but it is very easy to store in my small shed.

Comments about Colorful Tomato Grow Bag:

I am an apartment dweller who grew-up gardening, so I don't know how to live without fresh tomatoes, peppers, and herbs. These grow bags make it simple to grow on a patio or balcony (I have done both). I recommend buying both the self-watering trays and the cages. I have found it easier to put the cages in before filling with soil. I have grown tomatoes and peppers in many different "for patio" gardening pots, but nothing has given me the size and production of the grow bags. Last summer we had a drought and with the self-watering trays my tomatoes grew to be over 6' tall. I have also found the tomato grow bag to be perfect for the bean/pea tower and to grow my beans and peas. Excellent product. Only negative is needing somewhere to dump the soil at the end of the season if you are an apartment dweller.
