Terra Cotta AquaCone® Watering Devices are an ingenious and attractive way to provide moisture directly to plant roots. Simply fill a wine bottle (or similar bottle) with water. Place the AquaCone over the top of the bottle, then tip the bottle and cone upside down and place in the soil near a plant. Water will seep slowly into the soil through the porous terra cotta and the small holes in the base.

- Fragile

- Deep Watering
I bought these terra cotta aqua cones to add weekly deep watering to my young fruit trees. They are on a slight grade, so watering from a hose or a watering can simply rolls down the slope. What others feel are a negative is actually a positive for me. The water empties relatively quickly and soaks the root zone of the trees without any runoff. I refill the wine bottles 3-4 times, so I am glad it doesn't drain too slowly. The instructions say to fill the cones with sand to slow the emptying, but I choose not to do so.
The wine bottle and terra cotta cone combination look interesting together against the young tree. I have a thin wire loosely securing the wine bottle from tipping over.
I take off one star for its fragility. So far there are no chips or cracks. I don't know how it will hold up in the winter. Perhaps I will remove them in the fall.

These clay vessels keep garden soil moist in our hot Southern Utah afternoons.I have put wine bottles in them as directed to provide the water. A narrower version, though less attractive, manages to keep the water over a longer period of time. I suppose the two versions work well for different circumstances.

- Total Emptying Of Water

- Flooding Drip Containers
- Not For Pots
Best Uses
I am going to experiment on plugging the 2 holes which look small enough but the water gurgles straight through. I have plant nurseries that the water is SLOWLY absorbed in the dirt which I use for smaller pots. This style is more expensive.

while I liked the design factor, these terra cotta fixtures are very, VERY fragile. I broke the top off of one while installing installing it in well worked soil. Be very careful and perhaps use a trowel to help set these in the ground. If you have hard or dry or heavily clay-based garden beds, do NOT jam these things in the ground...you'll break every one

It broke the first time I put a wine bottle in it.
Pros
- Very convenient to use
Cons
- Quality Lacking Chipped
Best Uses
Chipped around top edge, so still useable. Maybe this is normal for the clay, but I would prefer clean smooth edge.

Although this still works, one arrived chipped. Both have suffered chipping and flaking with use - over a 3-week period - when used outdoors.

Purchased two, one was broken in the box. Items were on back order for 3 weeks. The other wasn't broken, followed the directions, put in the wine bottle and the water goes right through immediately. So the hype is just that.
