    Good support for vines

    By Sue the gardener

    from Union City, CA

    Verified Buyer

    Pros

    • Attractive
    • Easy to add on
    • Good Distance Betw Wires
    • Good height
    • Sturdy
    • Supports Vines

    Cons

    • No Support Pole At 1 End

    Best Uses

    • Climbing veggies

I use it for supporting peas, beans and cucumbers. It is attractive enough to leave up all year, even when no plants are growing on it. The distance between the wires is just right to weave the plant through without breaking or injuring the plant. It is easy to add on a second trellis.

I rated it 4 stars (instead of 5) because there is no vertical ground support pole at one end of the trellis. As a result, the trellis can be a bit unsteady/tippy. It would be great if there was a removable pole provided that could be passed through the loops at the end of the trellis and into the ground to provide the additional support. The pole could easily be removed when adding on another trellis.

          Great idea, frustrating to use

I've owned two of these for two years. They're a great size for growing sugar snap and shelling peas but, as mentioned in many other reviews, the trellis pieces are difficult to fit together once seperated. When one part snaps into place, another part snaps out - so much so that I was so intensely frustrated putting them together the first time, that I paid my neighbor to put them up the second year.

I can't find a great alternative to these so I will likely keep using them and think they are ....decent...for the job. I wish they were sturdier and 'clicked' into place more easily.

This the best way I have found for supporting peas - all other methods resulted in peas toppling the supports or growing over the top and becoming difficult to manage and harvest.

So glad I don't have to build my own every year anymore. It was so frustrating. Now I just place it in my garden and voila....Glad I bought it. Next year, I'll buy another one!!!!

This pea trellis is tall, tall enough for 6+ foot pea plants. I have never had a system that was tall enough to keep the plants from flopping. I'll think of using them for cucumbers, pole beans, smaller squash, and even vining flowers. I did need extra hands, my husband's, to get everything lined up when putting them together. I also bought 6 ft metal fence posts and extra long ground staples to make sure the trellis would hold up in storms. I've decided that even though they are quite expensive, they make my life easier. The peas are so easy to pick. They also make my garden neat and attractive. I like that too.

I appreciate the ease of the fence once it has been installed. It stores nicely for the winter and is easy to dig out in the spring.

The trellis part is great for climbing vegetables. The stakes for securing it into the ground is way too short. We had to add stakes to extend into the ground to give it stability. It could not stand on it's own.
