For best seedstarting results, instead of using a fixture that's meant to illuminate the garage or workshop, use a fixture that's designed to make plants grow. Our new T-5 Light Fixture uses the latest in lighting technology with a state-of-the-art ballast. The high-output fluorescent tubes are 72% brighter than standard "shop lights", and they replicate more of the light spectrum so your seedlings and houseplants develop healthy top growth and strong root systems. Because the tubes are smaller, they require less mercury, phosphorous and glass to manufacture, and they use less electricity and last longer.

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
I started my seeds inside and my seedlings loved it. I ended up buying a second lamp to have seedlings of varying heights growing at the same time.

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
I started all of my vegetables and some flowers indoor this winter. The plants are as healthy as anything I could buy at a garden center. It really helps get the garden started early if you have the space to spread it all out!

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
We start our vegetable & flower gardens by seed each yr & this yr we incorporated these lights. The seedlings are much stronger & have sturdier stems because they aren't reaching for the sun. I'm glad we added this to our start up system.

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
I live in an area with few sunny days and a short summer. Starting plants indoors is a must. These lights are great. I have them set up in the basement and the seedlings are growing straight up toward the light instead of bent over toward a window!

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
The fixture is light weight and the reflector is wide and nicely designed. It appears that the light from this one fixture with two bulbs will will cover the same area as the two standard shop light fixtures (4 bulbs total) I have used in the past.Plastic film protection on the top of the reflector to prevent scratches during shipping was a nice touch. However, be sure to remove it before you turn on the lights. The lamp "user manual" is a one page sheet, with some of the worst (and humorous) instructions I have ever read. English was obviously a second, or maybe third language for the writer. Luckily it was pretty easy to assemble, although, I was nervous about damaging the bulb bracket when inserting it into the clips. Also the manual says "professional electrician is needed for safety, maintaining and checking fixture". I think that is overkill. Gardener's Supply should definitely rewrite the instructions in proper English. Also the website says that the fixture is a Vermont made product. Perhaps the reflector is made in Vermont, but the fixture brackets themselves clearly state "Made in China". Also for [$] I think that Gardeners Supply could include a couple of chains for hanging the lights.

I use these for seedlings and veg growth
There is nothing to attach the chains to
These are designed to hang from a fixture not chains
Dissapointing at best

This lamp was an excellent addition to my propagation mats. I had out grown my light tier and needed another light.

Comments about T-5 Light Fixture:
bought it to start my seedlings inside. seedlings are a few weeks old and doing well. Light was easy to use. And it's cool to the touch. (I'm not worried about any fire hazard by having it on for 10 hours a day in my basement.) I don't give this a 5-star because I haven't had it long enough to judge it's effectiveness on my seedlings. But so far so good.
