We have hard rocky soil and this shovel works great! Shovel is used by several people on our gardening committee at our condo and all have raved about it.

I love this shovel. I normally hate getting new beds ready but not anymore. I have a strip of land in front of my house that is technically city property (they maintain and mow). I prepped a small patch of land expecting it to be as hard as a rock but the shovel made quick work in the bed. It even cut through clay and rocks. I expanded the plot and have planted all my garlic and onions in this now fairly large plot. It cuts through small tree roots with ease and does not bend or break the teeth of the shovel. My beds are in the best shape they have ever been!! My soil has a lot of clay, rocks and tree roots. Not a problem for this shovel...I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shovel

This shovel cuts surgically through roots and vines. The low handle takes pressure off your wrist allowing for maximum control of the load carried. Long handle would be contraindicated with this shovel.Great for impacted "at one time loose" gravel and stone.Clay-no problem. Sturdy Construction absorbs the abuse often a result of frustration and impatience. (not preaching here, rather I'm confessing). If I purchase one more of the shovels just imagine the damage I could do, with a little help of course.

Best garden tool I ever owned! Had mine for years and it cut through our red clay, roots, small stones, etc. I misplaced mine and had to reorder one immediately. I literally refuse to dig without it. Makes root pruning and transplanting much easier than with other shovels. Extremely strong! I have snapped the handles of many shovels transplanting in the past but never came close with this one. Worth every penny!
