This shovel cuts through my rocky clay soil and sod with ease when trying to plant or create new flower beds. The only thing that would make it even better is if it had a longer handle.

Tool was bought to dig up mature bushes in clay soil. The teeth didn't really do the trick with the enormous and deep root balls but make short work of the compacted soil. Have since used it to dig a vegetable garden in a weedy lawn area that turned out to have builders rubble buiried in it. Worked like a charm.
My only negative is that while the handle is long enough for me at 5'5" it was too short to be comfortable for my husband at 6'. On the other hand the shorter handle perhaps allows greater leverage

We have a heavy clay soil in our area and digging holes for planting trees is a nightmare. This year I had several fruit trees plus over 50 berry plants to get in the ground, so I splurged and bought this shovel. It works perfectly! I had no problems digging holes for the plants, this shovel did great cutting through roots and the clay soil.

I will use this for lawn maintenance first. Then I will use it to dig a space for a garden--first time at my current address. Underlaying ground is mostly clay and, I don't believe, it has ever been "worked up". The sod was just laid on top of the clay. And, it is made in the U.S.A.
