Summerweight Fabric Screens Out Pests

Ideal for summertime pest control, this garden cover effectively screens out Japanese beetles, potato beetles, cabbage worms, leaf miners, carrot flies and most vine borers. It transmits 85% of the light to your plants, without allowing heat build-up, and it provides frost protection down to 28° F.

  • Fabric protects your plants from insect pests, cold temperatures and too much sun
  • Thicker and more durable than other lightweight fabrics, yet doesn't cause overheating
  • 6' wide; choice of two lengths

    Comments about Summerweight Garden Fabric:

I'm using this in the Los Angeles area of California to prevent caterpillars on my leafy greens (lettuce, brassicas) in pots which are a big problem for me during cool weather.
I've had it draped over tomatoe cages and bamboo stakes secured with clothes pins and rocks. It's worked great at keeping the butterflies off it and preventing the caterpillars. I don't know how well it works against other pests. I had some aphids the first week on some kale, but they were probably already there from before I put the cover on.
The only thing I don't like is the fabric came rolled up and secured with a piece of masking tape. When I tried to pull off the tape it ripped the fabric. I also got a tear in the fabric on one of the bamboo poles. I have to be a bit careful it isn't pulled too hard on the ends of stakes or other stiff items to prevent more tears. That is my only little problem so far.

      Comments about Summerweight Garden Fabric:

The most annoying things was that the company took over 4 days just to ship out my order to their shipping partner. It took over 2 weeks to get to me once the shipping partner received it and by then the bugs had eaten most of my winter crop of veggies. Hopefully it will salvage what is left of the crop (not much). So if you already have a bug problem, I would not buy this expecting it to arrive in time to save your crops.

We love this stuff! We are using it this winter in homemade winter greenhouses but also use it in the spring and fall to keep away bugs and frost damage.

We are using the garden fabric to provide frost protection for our late season greens. It works great and still lets light and moisture through. We plan to do the same again in early spring.

This really did work well even though a few, of about a million, grasshoppers actually ate thru in about 3 small places. Light weight and a few landscaping pins held against some pretty high winds.

            Comments about Summerweight Garden Fabric:

We surrounded a group of tomato plants in our flower bed with the light fabric, using the metal rods to hold them up above the plants.
If squirrels climb over or get under in spite of the weights we put around the bottom, we will cover the top as well. The squirrels got our first 8-10 green tomatoes. We now have several tiny green ones again. Hoping to protect till they are large enough to bring inside.

Follow up to previous posts - I wrapped my vegy plants for Hurricane Irene. I just used clothespins to hook them down. The fabric protected everything and withstood the 60 mph gusts we had and the hours of strong downpours and all my vegys are just fine, thanks to the fabric covering

                  Comments about Summerweight Garden Fabric:

I've written other reviews but I did a quick cover to protect from Hurricane Irene due to hit here later today. I used the fiberglass hoops for first time also. I had to climb a ladder to cover cucumber plants (and I'm 70) so did the best I could. Eggplants are fairly sturdy and I ran out of clips so just covered half. If fabric blows off, it's going to be death by flying missile clothespins.
