My rain barrels develop a strong odor and the water turns bad after several weeks sitting in the 100+ heat. After talking to the people at Gardners.com, they recommended that I try this product, but cut each packet into quarters (a more appropriate size for my 75-gal. barrels). I did that and put the packets in the already bad water, but it did nothing to clear it up. After some recent rains, the water did smell better, but I am guessing it is because most of the bad water was forced out by the new rain water. I am not pleased with this product, but I can't say it won't work if you put it in when your water is still good.

I have been using this product for 4 years. My first pond was 650 Gallons and had no fish and it worked great. My new pond is about 500 Gallons with about 20 fish and it works great in it too. I just have to replace the packs more often. It cleans with no chemicals which is great for my fish.
