This was a Christmas gift to my husband, but arrived two weeks before Christmas. I had no way of knowing from packaging that I should have opened and placed immediately into refrigerator. Whether it sprouts now is a question -- and possibly money lost!

This is the second mushroom kit I have grown, the first was the white. The shiitake kit takes a lot more effort and tending to. The mushrooms were very prolific and tasty. Not sure I would do this particular kit again.

The kit is easy to set up and use. The only drawback is that it does require DAILY maintenance, so best to purchase when you don't have any travel plans for a while. Otherwise, it is great, and the mushrooms are delicious!

My first attempt at growing this mushroom was a little disappointing. I called the Mushroom Hotline after my kit turned black and nothing was growing. They walked me through the steps to "re start" the Kit as well as gave some helpful pointers. Once I re started the mushroom kit I got a crop of 5 large, healthy, tasty mushrooms. I let it dry out and re started it again to get 7 more tasty mushrooms. I am currently drying the kit out to give it another run. Looking forward to more tasty Shiitakes!

There are a certain number of steps to follow, especially if your package arrives it is over 40 days old, which mine was. Had one mushroom grow--it was great, but have had no others.

We got two shitake kits. One produced 3 delicious mushrooms and is currently in the "rest" stage for two weeks. The other one has produced nothing but I am still faithfully misting. It's about 8 days behind the other one.I am so disappointed. Over $70. was spent for 3 mushrooms!

We had the kit shipped to a relative in Kingston NY as a gift. So far she has harvested 3 mushrooms, and there appears to be more emerging.

Even though I followed the instructions exactly, it has not produced any mushrooms. I am in the process of taking the next step of the suggested "problem solving" and drying it out and starting over again, but I am not optimistic that it will work.

Grows as advertised. Directions are clear, but pictures in directions are terrible. We'll see how they taste later this week.
