Comments about Self-Watering Tray:
I'm a weekend gardener and watering during the week when I'm away is my biggest issue. I found these trays 6 years ago, and have bought more every year. They are far sturdier than the standard trays. I use them both indoors to start seeds, and outdoors to' 'hold' plants and seedlings until planting. I also have an outdoor covered stand I use as a cold frame, and use these trays there as well. They seem indestructible. I cut a small hole in the matting over the fill opening, and use a large funnel when I fill the tray indoors-- no spilling. I
I've been away as long as 2 weeks and when I get back, everything is fine and growing well.
At the end of the season I clean everything and put it away. Occasionally I have bought replacement matting, it comes in a sheet large enough for a few trays. I also use the matting under house plants in other contains.

This is my first attempt at growing berries. I purchased this so I could go out of town and not have to worry about whether my blueberry bushes and strawberries were getting enough water while I was gone. So far all my berries are happy and blooming.

Comments about Self-Watering Tray:
I purchased 3 of these trays last year and I liked them so well I ordered more this year. I used these under some grow pots and they worked well keeping them watered. It encourages the roots to go down to obtain the water. They helped keep the plants moist without them standing in water. The only problem I encountered was filling them-you need to water them at a corner and you need to do it slowly or the water goes out of container. It would be nice if they had a large bowed out area for watering.

Comments about Self-Watering Tray:
I use it to grow seedlings till there ready to be planted outside. Works great, keeps plants watered. Only needs refilling about once a week. I put it in a wagon so I can roll it outside to harden off the plants. Gardeners Supply needs to sell the wicking mats separate, after a few years the mat starts to deteriate, then you have to buy the whole assembly.

Comments about Self-Watering Tray:
I gave a planter as a gift and wanted the plastic tray so that the planter wouldn't corrode. The tray set (tray, mat, and elevated shelf) is an interesting approach to keeping plants watered. But altogether they don't work, because the elevated shelf plus capillary mat bring the plants up to the lip of the tray, making it too likely that the plants will fall off the tray. We removed the shelf and it seems to work ok.

I have a lettuce grow bag full of dirt sitting & plants sitting on the self-waterer. This self-waterer is much more study than the ones you'll purchase at the big box stores.

Comments about Self-Watering Tray:
I use them outside for my grow bags for salad, carrots and the like. Inside I use them with my grow lights for seed starting. For some I even hooked up a drip system so I never have to check on them, just the plants. I put some anti-musquito grains in the bottom every 3 weeks and I am good to go.
I saw a complaint from somebody that you could not see the water level. There is a cut-out in the pegboard, so I made the cut-out in the capillary mat. I try to water through the same cut-out. A pity is that they don't sell the pegboards separately, I have several extra trays from the grow lights.
