Our field tests prove it: In self-watering planters, this lightweight mix works better than conventional potting soil. Its coarse, airy texture acts like a wick, carrying water from the planter’s reservoir to the root system. The result is more vigorous root growth, better aeration and less waterlogging. It's also an ideal mix for standard pots and planters. Contains sphagnum peat, perlite, vermiculite and limestone. 20-quart bag.

Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:
I've used this soil many times for all my self-watering containers. I'm not convinced that it contains enough nutrients for a whole summer, so I add worm compost. The price is pretty high, but I can't find anything that works so well in self-watering containers locally.

Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:
Dampen the product in the bag before starting to use.I usually put some of my homemade compost at the bottom of the container, then the container mix. This combination seems to work very well.

Used this product in the self watering window boxes purchased last year and was very pleased with the results. Purchased two more bags for this year's window boxes plus other patio planters.

Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:
I have window boxes outside my brownstone window in the city. Since I have to take out the screen to fill the window box, I want the soil to maintain moisture and support my plants. Nothing I've bought has done the job better than Gardener's Supple special mix.

Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:
I like it in the self-watering containers, inside and out. I used it for my garden window herbs so it is not too much weight on the overhanging window!
Thanks!

Comments about Self-Watering Container Mix:
The containers are functional aand attractive, aand starting my vegetable seeds in the soil mix was easy to do. I am anticipating a large crop of sweet peppers and cherry tomatoes to eat this spring. Many of the extra seedlings will be given to friends.

I use this container mix in my self-watering window boxes which hang on the railing of my deck. My first attempt at growing strawberries couldn't have been better.
