Comments about Heat Mats:
I used a heating pad last year to start my seeds as I do not have central heat. It made such a difference that this Spring, I bought two for my new two-tier seed starting cabinet.
When I realized that the mats had to go under the special automatic watering fabric mats, I enclosed them in plastic trash bags.
A month later, I potted up the seedlings, and removed the mats. Took off the plastic bags, and they were in perfect condition.
I consider these to be a part of starting seeds, and NOT an expensive luxury.

Comments about Heat Mats:
I bought this heated mat to jump start seedlings that benefit from the added heat to the soil. It works just as promised - the seeds popped up earlier than usual. The only con, if it is a con, is that the heat causes the self watering plant tray system I have to run low on water every day and a half. I just have to keep a close eye on it.

Comments about Heat Mats:
Reliable heating sped germination for my plants to be transplanted into the garden this year.
