Safflower Birdseed Attracts Cardinals and Other Songbirds
- Safflower seed attracts cardinals, finches, nuthatches and chickadees
- Use in tray feeders to attract ground-feeding birds like cardinals
- Generally avoided by squirrels
The high fat, protein and oil content of safflower seeds make them an important food source for birds, especially during the winter months. A favorite food of cardinals, safflower seeds will also attract finches, nuthatches and chickadees. Best of all, the seeds are generally left alone by starlings, grackles and other "feeder hogs" that chase away smaller, less aggressive species, and it's often ignored by squirrels, too.

Comments about Safflower Birdseed, 5 Lbs.:
The small birds really took to this seed. I was surprised they ate it up so fast. I hung a small hopper feeder in my tree, and the squirrels didn't climb to eat it. As soon as I ran out of the safflower seed, I put some sunflower meats in it, and the squirrels got to it, and even broke the glass on my hopper feeder. Also, the safflower seed is high in nutrients for the birds especially in the winter.
