Root veggies like carrots and beets will stay fresh all winter and even grow sweeter in this storage bin. Just fill with layers of damp sand or sawdust, alternating with layers of carrots or beets, and put in a cool, dark place. Potatoes, turnips and squash can go right in the bin without sand.

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
I belong to a CSA, and during the fall we get a large amount of "keeper" produce, like potatoes, carrots, beets, turnips, rutabagas, etc.
I have this sitting on our deck table in the basement. It's the perfect location (dark, cool) and it's keeping my produce fresh, no sprouting, no rot. I bring up just what I need for dinner, and the rest is safe & secure. We picked up the last box of the season over the weekend, and added an additional 15lbs of potatoes, and there's still room!!!!
Just love it, works great for those of us that don't have an actual root cellar.

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
I have been looking for something like this for a long time, as I have been getting more and more into preserving foods. I will be trying this out this winter, but expect that it will perform very well!

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
I keep the root storage bin in my enclosed porch where night & day temps this winter are averaging 50-55 degrees. In the past I've used baskets with towels covering them to keep the light out. The root bin is much more stable and functional.

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
I'm using this in my root cellar to store carrots & beets. Better than plastic pails because it breathes to reduce mold. Its liner provides darkness inside the box. Box and liner fold flat for storage in summer. Liner is machine washable. It was easy to put together using the spiral wire connectors; however just as they were easy to use, they also continue to spiral down and fall off the edges of the box (if the box is elevated from the floor). But this is a minor issue.

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
Stored about 100 carrots in damp sand. Interested to see how long they last, but after a month they're still fresh.

Comments about Root Storage Bin:
I purchased this item to store carrots and beets from my garden. I was pleased with the quality of the bin, however, I believe the jute lining should have ties in the front also to help secure it to the wire bin.

This bin was very easy to put together and is of quality construction. I have my potatoes stored in it and so far so good. I am pleased with my purchase. It holds about a small bushel of potatoes.
