Easy Protection

By Gator Gal

from Gainesville, FL

Verified Buyer

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Fits
  • Keeps Frost Out

Cons

    Best Uses

    • W Plant Protection Tent

Fits perfectly over the Plant Protection Tent, and the pins keep it firmly over the plastic walls of the Grow Bed. It's protected my turnips, chard, kale and collards through three frosts or near-frosts so far this winter!

Frost cover fits over old pop-up!

    By Sandy

    Pros

    • Fits Over Old Pop-up

    Cons

    • Poles Broke

    Best Uses

    • Season Extension

Now I see that others have had the same experiences that I've had with the poles on the insect protection tent breaking, taking long to replace and breaking again. But I had these frost protection covers so I tried one over the old tall pop-up bird protection cover and it fits!! So at least I can use this and the shade cloth cover. I wish the old 3 by 3 pop-ups were still available!

a MUST to extend the growing season

    By MECM

    from South-West Texas

    Verified Buyer

    Pros

    • Does the job
    • Easy to use
    • Good Heavy Material

    Cons

    • Loops Too Small
    • On the short side

    Best Uses

    • Grow Bed Frost Protection
    • Tender Plant Protection

I have a 3x3 grow bed and the frost cover fits great over that. I also have some bug protection tents sitting around the regular garden, for those, the "skirt" is about 2 inches short. It works great, nothing has been frost-bitten yet. They are easy to put over the tents and some laundry pins hold them in please if you don't want to use the loops at the bottom. In heavy wind, do use the loops!
    Great product, not overly expensive.

    Big Disappointment

    By Happy Gardener

    Pros

      Cons

      • Did Not Protect To 29

      Best Uses

You advertised this would protect down to 27 and it didn't even protect even to 29. It was also a little difficult to attach to the tent.

        Very Poorly Designed

        By PopcornSally

        Pros

        • Looks good when new
        • Zipper For Easy Access

        Cons

        • Support Rods Break

        Best Uses

I ordered one of these for my 3x3 container garden. The fiberglass support rod broke in the first 2 weeks it was set up. I contacted Gardeners.com and they sent me two replacement rods (after about 2 months as they were backordered). Guess what? The new ones both broke within 2 weeks! So now I have an ugly, broken and ripped contraption on my pretty herb garden. Oh well, not gonna get a replacement. Chalk this one up to stupid tax.

It was a good idea, but...

          By Christie

          from Zuni Mountains, NM

This looked like a good idea. It has screening for warmer weather, and a cover for keeping it warmer when frosts come.

BUT...When we first put it together, one of the tent poles broke during assembly. We taped it together and used it, and it broke in another place while it was sitting there. We called Gardeners' Supply, and they sent out new poles. We replaced the broken pole, and the pole didn't break during assembly. It was up for about an hour or two, and I looked out and the pole had snapped. Very pitiful! Lots of work, and we have a lopsided screened tent out on our deck. We will be asking for a refund.

The screening material seems to be strong, and looks like it would last a few seasons. And it's working well to keep the rodents away from my squash plants. I also like that it has a zipper on each side, so that the plants to can be easily accessed. If they would only use better tent poles, it would be a good product. But these poles break too easily, so they don't provide the support that is needed.

We have not used the frost cover, so I can't comment on that.

          Absolute GARBAGE!

          By Carmen Gardens

          from New Mexico

          Verified Buyer

          Pros

          • GREAT Idea

          Cons

          • Disintegrates immediately

          Best Uses

          • To mess up the environmen

The frost covers disintegrate as soon as you put them outside. Pieces of the white cover shred off on their own and get blown all over by the wind. The fabric is cheap, not waterproof and totally worthless. I have a number of these I'd like to return.
