    Comments about Perennial Planter:

When we moved to a condo, I inherited a tiny (3' x 8') border from the previous tenants. I had only done a little bit of container gardening up to that point, so all the gardening equipment I had was a trowel and a tiny watering can. I looked online to see what was out there in the world of gardening tools, and this thing immediately caught my eye. It seemed to be the perfect size, since my border is so small that using a shovel would be awkward and imprecise. I hemmed and hawed about buying it--why spend so much on a garden tool? But I caved and got it, and I'm glad I did.

This tool is beautiful and it is FIERCE. I use it to root up weeds, chop up the thick roots of long-gone plants, plant flowers, and shovel small quantities of soil around. I was especially glad that I had this, and not just my trowel, when I discovered two giant (5-10 lb) rocks about a foot below the surface of the soil! It gave me the leverage I needed to dig them out and looked no worse for the wear. So, bottom line: if you have a tight space that's too small for long-handled tools, but still needs some heavy digging, this little spade is perfect.

A word of warning, however: the high-carbon steel definitely needs some maintenance. If left outside on a rainy day, even in a sheltered place, it can rust in the space of a couple of hours. I wash and dry mine after every use, and bring it indoors with me. I also plan on applying mineral oil to it before putting it away for the winter. It's worth the effort, however.

I love this tool for its versatility. It is well-designed and constructed and seems durable. The blade, however, does rust if not cleaned and dried after use.

          Comments about Perennial Planter:

I use this tool for setting out starter plants and separating and moving perennials. It is the perfect size between a trowel, which is too small, and a small shovel. It's very well made and seems durable enough. Not ergonomic but very useful nonetheless. A valuable addition to my gardening tool cache.

This little tool comes in handy in my garden. I use it to trench around
my hostas before they crown so I can add mushroom compound and other
nutrients. Great for transplanting my little bulbs as well.

If I am outside, I always have the perennial spade (planter) and a tubtrug in hand. I have used this tool for the last 25 years or more. Excellent for weeding, digging, chopping (back foliage/grasses like a machete). I am truthfully never without it. Own a total of 4. Have gifted them and ordered them for neighbors. AWESOME!
