The Peel Away™ Seedling Pot Kit is an innovative, effective and convenient seedstarting system. The pots are made from VELCRO® brand fabric, which air-prunes roots so plants form healthy, dense root systems. This ensures optimal water and nutrient uptake and eliminates spiraling, which results in vigorous, robust plants. The self-watering tray uses a reservoir and a wicking capillary mat to deliver water to plants as they need it, eliminating over- and under-watering and minimizing problems with damping off. When it's time to transplant your seedlings, the peel-away sides make it easy to remove plants without disturbing roots, minimizing transplant shock. Pots are washable, reusable and store flat. The Peel Away Seedling Pot Kit includes twelve 2" square pots plus a self-watering tray.

the pots do not air prune roots at all, they actually entangle them on the sides and bottom, so you are actually ripping roots off when you remove them to plant. whats wrong with the regular plastic pots , you can see through the drainage holes when they are ready to transplant and that works just fine. This is an unecessary invention it really has no positive extra benefits compared to conventional pots. i say dont bother with these overpriced useless pots.

I intended to use these pots for seedlings that had sprouted on pellets. However, the Velcro edges were very difficult to line up square. The material was too soft to function as a pot. Worst of all, they were too small to be of any use anyway. Completely bad idea.

I ordered two sets of the pot kit. They came with instructions on putting together the pots, but nothing about using the tray. For example, should I put water in the tray first, then the capillary mat, then pots? I first tried placing filled pots onto a dry tray and I think I run the risk of floating the seeds out of the medium. It seems obvious after making the mistake, but wish I had the Peel-away seed starting kit guide for dummies. My young son helped put together one kit and it was an example of why the pots need to be square (so that all 12 fit into one tray). I bought the red color, which is rather attractive, but may prove to be a sub-optimal choice later if the soil stains them. I plan to update after more use.
