I added these to an existing metal shelving unit in my laundry room. The top shelf already had a metal grid backing. These little shelves just hooked right on to the grid, any where I wanted, to hold the smaller items that I need to keep handy but out of the way. I added a small cable tie to each hanging rod to secure these little shelves to the grid, so they can't accidentally come loose.
