We tried this a couple of years ago, and the tomato plants grew higher than the awning on olur deck.
We have given up growing tomatos anywhere but in the self watering boxes and just buy soil refills every year.

In order to have a continual supply of sungold cherry tomatoes, I bought the starter kit last year. I am not a gardener, but I decided to give it a try. It was easy to set up, and I was happy to get a wonderful, tasty yield throughout the summer. This year, I got the replenishment kit. I put the seedlings in less than a month ago. They are already three feet tall and producing flowers. A friend put two seedlings in her yard at the same time, and they have not grown nearly as well. Great product!!

I have a small raised bed in which, in the past, I've raised tomatoes. They'd always get some kind of fungus or something, which resulted in their drying up and dying. Last year I purchased a tomato success kit and put it out on my second-floor deck. I had great tomatoes throughout the season ... and no disease at all. Additionally, since I do some traveling and rely on my cousins to water while I'm away, I really didn't leave much work for them; the self-watering system is good for at least a week's worth of watering.

I USE THIS TO GROW TOMATOS ON MY DECK. THIS IS THE 3RD SEASON OF USE AND THE TOMATOS ARE LARGER AND HEALTHIER THAN THOSE I PREVIOUSLY RAISED IN THE GARDEN. We bought the table top planting kit several years ago for my dad. He loves to garden, but has moved to a smaller place that doesn't allow gardens set apart from the house. This type of garden works best for him. Every year we replenish the planter with these products and he looks forward to it very much.
